Waacking, Punking, House, Dancing | 14 December, 4-6 PM 2 Performances + Artist talkback ‘Aussprechen’ Solo dance performance by Daria Makarova @_.sonnemondundsterne._ Music by Carsten Thiele @freeratiosize How much space does one occupy in a conversation? How is speaking time distributed between people read as female and people read as male, and what impact does this have on the visibility and perception of women? In the performance, these questions are explored through dance, along with the permission to consciously take up space. ‘Ambiguities of Desire‘ Artistic direction by Yousif Shamoon @yousif.shamoon Organisation by Malte van Haaren @malte_vanh Featuring: Johanna Affeln @getupjojo , Katharina Griggel @kathi_gri & C. Nasim V. Ragus @firdusii The Perfomance deals with the feeling of desire, a feeling that’s omnipresent in queer life. We often define ourselves in regards to our desire, that’s often sanctioned by the society we live in. We crave physical intimacy, belonging, social visibility and more. We orient ourselves after models set out by others and rarely get to express the individual aspects of our desires. At the same time, we live in a tension between societal exclusion and the simultaneous desire by society to appropriate queer culture for capitalist ends. As long as there are trends to feed upon, queer culture is part of the self-marketing of brands, industries and public institutions, to show that they are able to cater to contemporary trends. However, queer culture often was happening in secluded spaces - in clubs, parks, in the bedroom. The performance deals with those polyvalent aspects of desires. ‘Waacking, Punking, House, Dancing’ was selected through the open call ‘Cartographies of the Dark’ - Platform for young engagement’ supported by the state government’s funding programme ‘2.000 × 1.000 Euro für das Engagement’ to be part of the public programme of the group exhibition ‘Cartographies of the Dark’ curated by @cris.escobarro Foto Gloria Sisko @glorija.sisko
