März geben teilen sie ihre Eindrücke vom Festivalgeschehen, Screenings und allem, was rund um die Diagonale passiert. Varia Garib und Kirill Komar sind ein in Wien lebendes Regieduo. Beide migrierten als Kinder aus Usbekistan und der Ukraine und teilen diese Erfahrung, die ihren künstlerischen Fokus maßgeblich prägt. Ihre Filme sind intime Auseinandersetzungen mit Einsamkeit, Entwurzelung und der Suche nach innerem Frieden. Seit 2023 führen sie gemeinsam Regie bei den Kurzfilmen Aysu (2025), Mosquito (2026) und Yuragim (2026). Ihr aktueller Film Mosquito läuft auf der Diagonale am 19. und 20. «Yuragim» has completed its journey at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival in the Berlinale Shorts programme. The film was screened in six cinemas across Berlin and was warmly received by audiences. Thanks to everyone who came, watched, and shared their feelings, it truly means a lot! Berlinale has been facing criticism from many sides lately. And unfortunately, people sometimes forget that a festival is not something abstract. It is made by real people who work for months with dedication. That is why it feels important for us to publicly express our gratitude to @berlinale_shorts and everyone involved. They have always been kind, helpful, supportive and simply the best. They were also open to every opinion; there was no attempt of censorship. When we faced some unexpected difficulties, that we could not solve ourselves, Anna and the team immediately stepped in to protect and support us. We will never forget that. What we appreciate and admire most is that every action was guided by respect and kindness. And sadly, that is something the world seems to be lacking more and more. Katta rahmat ❤️

“Our starting point was a deep affection for Central Asia (Uzbekistan in particular) and its people.
