Lin @echolynnn invites you to this banguet, where she draws on the concept of ritual and food as connecting points between different worlds. She reshapes her symbolic memories of her hometown, re-examines her current trans-cultural life, and contemplates the body navigating through diverse cultures and geographical boundaries.

“people who come to Düsseldorf“ is an event series organized by Pan Ren. Each edition features one or several Europe-based Chinese diaspora artists whose practices are shaped by diverse narratives, to come to Düsseldorf, stay here for a few days, and host a gathering in an intimate setting that engages with body, food, word, kinship, and collective making.

Starting this week by introducing / Diese Woche stellen wir vor:
Jing Lin @echolynnn Sentiment Index

Sentiment Index
(the swaying memory succumbs to the unshakable days)
„Gold is a mirror. Its price gauges global economic fear. Fear of uncertainty, fear of losses & fear of poverty. {…} Twice in the past three years, the price of gold has climbed more than $2000/ounce.
Terms in financial markets known as the “fear index”, “greed index” link such volatility to collective psychology.
The installation is a welded steel piece based on the chart of gold prices. {…} 37 metal tubes, each cut to a specific length according to the pentatonic scale, produces an ever-changing, chance-based sound, which takes inspiration from the form of wind chime {…} The tubes are hanging with prints featuring dates, gold prices and the images from the actual news that shows how news events become part of this trend {…}“

The shooting of this scenario (loop, 2019) was inspired by Ryuichi Sakamoto, who created a notion of listening, listening “a perpetual sound, one that won’t dissipate over time”. 🕯️
