People of We Out Here [1/2]
We wanted to celebrate the
@weoutherefest community through our photography series. We felt this festival lends itself to the aesthetic and feeling that film photography offers. Shot entirely on medium format cameras we moved between backstage areas and the festival grounds, meeting a huge mix of people of all ages and styles, each bringing their own energy and personality. The portraits have a slight editorial feel while still keeping that real, human festival spirit.
To help bring the photographs to life and really celebrate each image we worked with the incredible Sarah England
@sarahengland_darkroom , a specialist in hand-printing and darkroom image making. By hand-printing the final selection of images it meant we could achieve a richer tonal range and tactile feel that differs from modern digital prints.
We see WOH as a unique grassroots festival, that has a real inclusivity to it - with so many people pouring love into it to take it what it is. Capturing its dynamic community and giving it that little bit more legacy as it grows each year is something we’re excited to be a part of.
It’s the first year we’ve tried something like this, almost an experiment, and seeing how beautifully it came together has us excited to build on it in the future and grow this into a bigger ongoing series.
