A year ago I started dancing folklĂłrico, something Iâd wanted to do for ages. At first, only my mom knew, as I wanted to surprise my grandma, who had always encouraged me to embrace our familyâs traditions
Now today, on the last night of DĂa de Muertos, I reflect on the fact that I got to perform in the
@eiteljorgmuseum Dia De Muertos festival that Iâve watched countless times. My mom and grandma got to see me dance for the first time and I surprised them with photos of my great-grandmothers, honoring the women on both sides of my family who shaped who I am
This was also my first performance with
@grupo_folclorico_macehuani itâs been such a joy to learn and train with them the last few months. I wouldnât have been with them if it wasnât for my first choreographer and now friend
@xxeveelyynn who I canât thank enough for making this experience possible. Shoutout the region of MichoacĂĄn that we danced lol
Iâm beyond grateful to my friend
@chriscourtney317 for capturing these memories through the series of photos in my performance fits. And thank you to the friends who showed up to support me last week too. Especially
@kalboy96 who took the performance photos. The last photos feature jewelry and jersey from last yearâs celebration, which could only be made possible by people like
@eddiecalaca of
@artemexicanoenindiana and various partners and people involved.
I can officially call myself a dancer! Proud to do dance on behalf of my family and my community. #folklorico #diademuertos
