For International Workers Day, also known as May Day, nearly 100 people participated in the General Strike by attending a rally at the Indiana Statehouse. On this historic day, workers worldwide take to the streets to demonstrate their strength when they act in solidarity. This particular May 1, commemorates the 140th anniversary of the workers in Chicago who fought for and won the 8-hour workday, and the 20th anniversary of workers nationwide who held a general strike for “A Day Without Immigrants”, in opposition to a host of anti-immigrant and anti-working class proposed laws, in particular the Sensenbrener Bill. The demonstration was organized by Indivisible ( @indy.resistance ), Cosecha ( @cosecha_indiana ), About Face ( @vetsaboutface ) , and member-groups of the Indy Liberation Center ( @IndyLiberationCenter ) . The demands included “ICE Out” and “Permanent Protection for All.” Organizer Jay Grillo ( @Jay_Grillo ), representing ANSWER Indiana ( @answerindiana ) , spoke on the connection between imperialist wars abroad and ICE terror at home. #MayDayIndy2026 #ANSWERCoalition #abolishice

Join us Wednesday evening to learn not only why the U.S. empire wages war on Iran, but also the history of Iran and its long struggle for self-determination. Armed with the history, we can fight back against the U.S. imperialist propaganda machine. As the ceasefire nears its end, the U.S. is hellbent on escalating its war on Iran. When the conflict began, the U.S.-Israel alliance claimed it wanted regime change. When that goal failed, the narrative shifted to the “imminent threat” of a nuclear weapon. But as the U.S. fails to sell these stories, it also fails to hide its true goal: the destruction of a sovereign Iran and US control over Iran’s resources. While Trump has a history of initiating violence against Iran, the U.S. war on Iran didn’t start—or end—with his terms. Since 1953, the United States and its allies have repeatedly interfered in Iran, steering the nation and stripping Iranians of their sovereign rights.

Never forget that small acts like making calls and emailing can result in victories that are both small and significant. "Danny a/k/a Jose Ortiz and I want to thank everybody for calling/and or emailing the IDOC regarding the broken Hoyer Lifts as the problem has now been rectified as a new Lift came in this week at Miami for the medical unit inmates." #

On Saturday, we laid Jamar Thomas to rest. His vigil was filled with joy and sadness—joy for the beautiful life he lived, sadness for a life cut short by racist brutality. We gathered with loved ones who knew Jamar best. We held space outside the Wing Stop where he was shot. We pleaded with passersby to pay attention, to stop scrolling, to see what happened here. And now we must turn our focus to Lamonte Thomas. Lamonte—Jamar’s nephew—faces bogus charges from the prosecutor. He restrained the armed gunman who shot his uncle. He protected others from being shot that tragic night. And instead of a reward, he got a trial date. April 27. That’s when Lamonte faces the system that already failed Jamar. Only the people—united, loud, and unafraid—can uncover the truth and secure justice for Jamar and Lamonte Thomas. Pay attention. Share their names. Show up on April 27. We won’t stop until both Thomases are free—one in spirit, one in body. 🕯️✊🏾

No War on Iran. No more genocide. 🕊️ Last weekend at the Indiana Statehouse, we joined people across the country who mobilized immediately after Trump’s latest genocidal threat against Iran. Working people everywhere are showing their resilience—standing together across borders, refusing to stay silent. Here in Indianapolis, we’re proud to play our part. Right now, we’re in a two-week ceasefire. But a pause is not peace. We will remain in the streets until that ceasefire is permanent—until the bombs stop falling on school children abroad, and until we start investing in our own children’s education and their future. From the Middle East to the Midwest, our demand is clear: fund our communities, not wars. 💥✏️📚

Curious what our organizers recommend reading now? Or their favorite art prints and other merchandise we have in store? This week we got the pics of Stephen Lane, a long time organizer with the Center and a member of the Indiana Black Librarians Network!

Two Black men went to order food. One was shot and died in police custody. The other was jailed for restraining the shooter. The gunman walked free. We reject IMPD’s narrative. We demand truth and justice. Join the family of Jamar Thomas and the Indianapolis Liberation Center to hold space, mourn, celebrate Jamar’s life, and fight back. This vigil is only the beginning. 🕯️
