Like many of us who came of age around 2008, I vividly remember watching a specific art documentary that had a lasting and profound affect on me. In the wake of this doc, some of us became painters, some photographers, some filmmakers and others artists of one medium or another. For me, it made me want to have a space.
In 2011 I moved to San Francisco and almost immediately met
@carson_lancaster . We started working on projects at
@bookandjobgallery – curating shows, throwing parties, filming short documentaries on our friends in their art studios. As a kid from a very small town in central CA I felt like I had made it. In 2013, we found my friend Shawn Whisenant had passed away in the back of the gallery from health complications. It was too much and therefore time to close that chapter.
Fast forward 8 or so years in NYC and a few more in Los Angeles – having had the opportunity to try on a number of different hats and work with an array of incredibly talented people along the way, I’m coming full circle. A few months ago I signed the lease on a small, street level space in Silverlake that has offered me the opportunity to open a small gallery as an extension to my agency and studio, Authorized Dealer.
The gallery will exist as a space to cultivate new and existing relationships with artists, initiating conversations and collaborations around their creative practices rather than commercial projects.
To say I am excited is an understatement. I look forward to meeting new faces and solidifying relationships from lives past. See you October 12th.
