Cali trip 3! Some more from Joshua Tree National Park. I love our National Parks, and JTree is a special one. A giant rocky, desert expanse filled with giant, otherworldly yucca plants — what’s not to love? And the final pic is a nice little sleeve I got off Etsy to beautify my parks pass… 😅

Cali post 2 Near the highest point of a long hike midday hike in Joshua Tree, this lizard was sunning on a rock just off the trail.

Cali trip post 1! Our time in LA was too brief! There are so many people I wish I could have seen, but I’m so grateful for the folks we did get to meet up with, the food we ate, the drinks, the views, the museums, and the beautiful weather. Hoping to be back soon. 🌴 ☀️

This hornbill flew over and perched just a few feet from a small group of us. Naturally, it was immediately named Zazu.

To celebrate NYC’s warm weather, I took a walk down to Red Hook and grabbed a couple pics of the Statue of Liberty yesterday. I didn’t take a tremendously long lens, just a 100mm, but I had a bunch of fun setting up a few different shots. I love the first for the person in the foreground who was enjoying the sunset with their pup. The second pic is actually two photos stacked — a long exposure to get the motion blur of the water and then a faster exposure to get the smoke that was billowing behind the statue sharp. I don’t know what caused the smoke, hopefully nothing bad, but I appreciate how ominous it made the scene. Last pic is just Red Hook saying it right.

Photographing this beautiful lil baby elephant was a highlight moment of last year for me. It was walking with its mother but trotted ahead a little as their herd passed in front of our vehicle. Preservation, conservation, protections for animals and their habitats — I’m so grateful for national parks and all the people globally working to protect wildlife.

In January, I was hired to capture photos at the World Economic Forum in Davos. These are mostly the photos I grabbed while wandering around town between assignments. Davos is normally a small alpine ski village, but during the Forum it transforms into something else entirely. Every storefront, every window, every available surface is wrapped in branding and messaging — all competing for the attention of the world’s most powerful people. Uber drivers are imported from across Europe. Security teams are everywhere. The whole place feels a little surreal. I stopped into a coop gift shop run by a group sweet, elderly women. It was a delight because they all were interested in helping me and chatting with me, but they had differing levels of English. So, they were collectively translating for each other. They very sweetly mentioned, not wanting to offend me, that the week was in fact pretty awful for the locals.

I’ve never posted a pano as a carousel like this… 😅 not sure if it’s cool or gimmicky. I’ve been using a few days of downtime to revisit a bunch of travel photography and other projects that I’ve always intended to share but never prioritized. So, hopefully posting more frequently over the coming weeks. This panorama was taken on a #5Dmkiii (my most loyal and dependable camera of (11??) years in Franschhoek, SA

Take this as your reminder to watch the Jacobs School of Music’s Nutcracker on PBS! Many of these highlights were captured by @alex_of_the_year_vol.2 on Steadicam, with @philipbradley pulling focus. The full production was shot with a beautifully engineered 9-camera setup, designed and operated by the incredible team at IU PBS / WTIU. Six manned cameras covered the house and wings (including a jib in the balcony), while three PTZ cameras in the pit captured the orchestra — all working together to bring the energy of this performance to the screen. Treat yourself this holiday season to this beautiful, joyful production — and don’t forget to support your local PBS station. There are few places still supporting this level of multicam arts coverage, and it matters. Huge appreciation for a team that made something this complex feel so seamless. @wtiuofficial @iujsom @pbs @principedynamics @kevinnewbury #TheNutcracker #JacobsSchoolOfMusic #PBS #WTIU #LiveCapture #MultiCamera #Trepak #DanceOnFilm #BehindTheScenes #PublicBroadcasting #FilmCraft #Grateful #Ballet #Holiday #LiveBroadcast #Streaming #christmas

Folks may notice that almost non of these BTS photos are in focus. All I can say is … that’s NOT THE CASE in the wonderful capture of The Nutcracker at Indiana University, which is now live on PBS stations nationwide. It was such an honor to direct and DP this project alongside my co-directors @kevinnewbury and @operaprince . It was a gift to get to capture something so joyful and beautiful alongside such dear friends. And the team from @wtiuofficial — IU’s PBS station — made the entire process seamless, easy, and flawlessly executed from start to finish. Their efforts really made this production one my of all-time favorites. I’m going to share more about it now that we are in prime Nutcracker season!! Expect some content that shows off the incredible steadicam work of @alex_of_the_year_vol.2 and tack sharp AC work of @philipbradley . And treat yourself to a holiday classic and put The Nutcracker at The Jacob’s School of Music on in your home this holiday. 🩰
