‘Here, or There, or Elsewhere’ explores the notion of painting as a space of encounter; one shaped by perception, history, and individual experience. United by an inquiry into painterly language, Ally Fallon and Jack Ginno present works that are open-ended—inviting engagement, reflection and new dialogues.
Fallon’s paintings exist as individual rooms. The distinct character of each painting is embedded in the sensation of its surface. They seek to operate as a space reserved for the individual viewer, where representational elements collapse into the abstract through a process of intermodal painting - rooms that serve as passages between both states.
Ginno often utilises found stimuli, chance, and by-product in an attempt to circumvent intent. Exploring and exploiting the language of painting to interrogate the roles and relationships of the artist, artwork, and viewer within the creative act.
Both artists share a concern with painting’s illusory nature and its ability to evoke and transform through perception. Their works functioning as neutral spaces, where meaning is not imposed but perhaps emerges through engagement. Each piece exists in a state of potential, fluid, shifting, and continually redefined by those who engage with it. Through the interplay of both physical and conceptual space, the exhibition considers how painting functions as a site for temporal, fleeting perspectives, with each viewer bringing their own associations and sensibilities.
‘Here, or There, or Elsewhere’ ran April 4th - April 13th at Heaven 11, Manchester, with many thanks to
