I’m pleased to present my exhibition ā€˜From Here to Here to Here’ at the Grundy Art Gallery, Blackpool. This show feels profoundly meaningful to me. Ten years ago, in spring 2016, I had my very first solo exhibition at this museum, titled ā€˜From Here to Here’. That moment marked the beginning. Now, a decade later, we’re closing the circle with a deeply personal show that traces how my practice has evolved from those early paintings through to the work I make today. For the first time, many pieces from those formative years — some never shown publicly before — are brought together. Through careful curation, you can see the threads, the questions, the quiet shifts in thinking and making that have carried me forward. It’s a rare chance to tell the story of how an artist’s practice is sparked, supported, nurtured, and ultimately takes flight. I’m so grateful to every lender who has trusted us with their works, especially those early collectors from the North West whose belief and support at the very start meant such a great deal. And my deepest thanks go to my dear friend, early advocate and champion Paulette Terry Brien — without whose vision, generosity, and unwavering faith in my work from the very beginning, none of this journey would have unfolded as it has. The exhibition includes new work by graduates of Apollo Painting School 2024-2025, handing the baton on to the next generation of painters. I look forward to marking the occasion with a special celebration on Friday 24th April. The show runs until 28th June 2026 @grundyartgallery @apollopaintingschool @heav11n

ā€˜A Song of Ascents’, Louise Giovanelli’s travelling exhibition, is now on view at Museum Villa Stuck in Munich (DE). For Louise Giovanelli, the idea of an ā€œascentā€ signifies our human desire to reach higher states of consciousness, whether through spiritual devotion, sensuality and love, intoxication, the thrill of performance, or just horror. Many of the paintings in the exhibition are inspired by scenes from films, while some of the more recent paintings were created based on photographs taken by the artist in working-class clubs and theatres in England. These places, which are often characterized by modest stages, worn velvet curtains, and a strange mix of everyday lightness and staged theatrics, are transformed by Giovanelli into venues of shared performance and hedonistic escapism. The exhibition is on view until March 15, 2026, at Museum Villa Stuck in Munich (DE). ✨ Announcing ā€œDecadesā€ by Louise Giovanelli ✨Opening 19 November 2025 at Strand Aldwych. Create London and Westminster City Council present Decades, a major new public artwork by acclaimed artist Louise Giovanelli @louise___giovanelli , transforming St Mary le Strand Church into a shimmering, sculptural illusion. Responding to James Gibb’s iconic St Mary le Strand Church, the large-scale, site-specific work will cover the south-facing faƧade in a composite image of a draped curtain, producing a sculptural trompe-l'œil form. By revealing details of the alternating colour patterns of the columns, while also covering up areas with fabric, Giovanelli uses different types of translucency to both eclipse and reframe architectural elements while embedding the church at the core of the artwork. Referencing both the theatrical history of the Strand and the church’s Baroque heritage, the work invites viewers to look closer, revealing subtle traces of decades, pollution and restoration in the building’s surface. By day, "Decades" reframes this architectural jewel within the modern city; by night, it glows, turning the church into a stage of light, history and transformation. šŸ“ St Mary le Strand Church @stmarylestrand , Strand Aldwych šŸ—“ 19 Nov 2025-18 Jan 2026 šŸ’¬ Free & open to all Commissioned by Create London for Westminster City Council @citywestminster , with support from London Heritage Quarter @londonheritagequarter , Liberty @libertylondon , and White Cube @whitecube , and developed in collaboration with David Chipperfield Architects @davidchipperfieldarchitects . #LouiseGiovanelli #CreateLondon #WestminsterCityCouncil #StrandAldwych #PublicArt #LondonArt #StMaryLeStrand #Decades #ArtInPublic #LondonCulture #FreeArtInLondon #PublicArtLondon Render by Richard Henley @richard__henley

ā€˜Mise en scĆØne’ by Louise Giovanelli is part of our Frieze London presentation, opening tomorrow. Deftly manipulating light and form, Giovanelli’s multivalent imagery reminds us that the classical foundations of painting remain sources of delight and innovation. Keenly attuned to the historical significance of painting as a medium and system of representation, her paintings challenge the eye by dissolving representation into carefully crafted textures and patterns. Frieze runs from October 15-19, 2025, at Regent’s Park in London (UK). Come and visit us at Booth B18 @friezeofficial . Giovanelli’s travelling exhibition ā€˜A Song of Ascents’ opens on October 18 at Villa Stuck in Munich (DE). We are pleased to announce that ā€˜Trinkerin’ by Louise Giovanelli was acquired by Museum Voorlinden in Wassenaar (NL) from her solo exhibition ā€˜Still Moving’ at the New York gallery. ā€˜Trinkerin’ is one of Louise Giovanelli’s largest works to date and references Ulrike Ottinger’s 1979 film ā€˜Ticket of No Return’. The exhibition drew inspiration from key cinematic moments the artist found in film. For Giovanelli, painting allows for a visual slowing down, and beholding her works becomes a meditative process, which holds the potential, as film does, for psychological transformation. In her first institutional exhibition in Austria, ā€œA Song of Ascentsā€ British painter Louise Giovanelli presents both existing works and ten new paintings created specifically for a three-part exhibition, which was previously held at The Hepworth in Wakefield and will travel to Museum Villa Stuck in Munich. Her paintings draw from pop-cultural, spiritual-religious and musical themes, while often portraying female faces in the moment in which they seem to experience something as well as large curtains of scenes of theaters or so-called working men’s clubs. Her tactile paintings, oscillating between abstraction and figuration, often naturalistic and multilayered, evoke a mystical, otherworldly atmosphere, while also addressing secular themes such as identity, ecstasy, youth, and the testing of boundaries. The title ā€œA Song of Ascentsā€ reflects Giovanelli’s interest in transcendence—realities beyond the visible, while also referring to Oscar Wilde’s De Profundis. Influenced by her musical training, and movies like ā€œCarrieā€ by Brian de Palma and ā€œSpring Breakersā€ by Harmony Korine, @louise___giovanelli explores a visual and sonic spirituality, often set in modern secular temples like nightclubs, combining beauty with eerie undertones and referencing both Renaissance art and pop culture. SAVE THE DATE! We look very much forward to the opening of Louise Giovanelli ā€œA Song of Ascentsā€ – the artist’s first solo exhibition in Austria on 27 June 25 at 6pm! Louise Giovanelli creates hypnotic paintings in which light radiates both visually and metaphorically, featuring mysterious motifs such as curtains, reflective surfaces, or female figures captured in moments just before revelation. Her works, often inspired by scenes from film and theater, are deliberately ambiguous and evoke fleeting memories or dreams. The exhibition title A Song of Ascents refers to a spiritual journey, which Giovanelli explores through sensual, emotional, and visually intense experiences in her paintings. Ten new works complement a selection of existing pieces, depicting places like working men’s clubs or theaters transformed into stages for communal ecstasy. Using classical painting techniques, detailed renderings, and a hyperrealistic aesthetic, Giovanelli pushes the boundaries of painting and creates works that oscillate between reality and fantasy, ecstasy and unease. ________ #louisegiovanelli #asongofascents #whitecubelondon #thehepworthwakefield #villastuck #hallefuerkunststeiermark #hkstyria
