So I can finally share this. I was honoured to be asked to paint this portrait of Sully to mark the launch of the final season of Netflix’s Top Boy.
Curated by Ronan Mckenzie this free exhibition at Somerset House is now open to the public until 13th September. I’m exhibiting alongside 15 other exceptionally talented artists.
If you can get to see it please do. The series has had a huge cultural impact and I’m grateful that Netflix have had the vision to use portraiture as a way of adding to the show’s legacy.

I’ve had so many thoughtful enquiries about commissions recently — thank you. These works are examples of commissions where I was given time, trust, and creative freedom. They are a record of a relationship between artist and commissioner or sitter, where we shared ideas around identity, belonging, and layered, nuanced, often complex personal histories.
I’m currently in the process of selecting a small number of new commissions (around four) to begin in the autumn. At the same time I’ll be developing a new body of work alongside these commissioned pieces. If you’re thinking about a portrait and feel your ideas might resonate with the way I work, you’re very welcome to open a conversation — even if the timing isn’t quite right yet.

This is a preparatory study for the larger portrait of Seema Misra OBE that I created for the BBC series Extraordinary Portraits. I made the initial drawings during a sitting early on in the process and then developed them into this oil painting. During the sitting Seema really came into her own and I started to “see” her more clearly. This first composition captured her likeness but I found myself straying towards something too romanticised and maybe too objective. For me it didn’t say enough about her resilience, her fight and her fierce love of her family…even if I had pursued it and added more layers.
Nonetheless I think this portrait works well as a study of Seema and a record of that pivotal day.
I am very grateful to the ever-innovative @ecoraa_ for sharing several samples of fabric with me. This particular sample and pattern turned out to be the perfect accompaniment for this composition.

Last night saw the opening of the Extraordinary Portraits Exhibition at the Loading Bay in Bradford. Please visit if you get a chance to it’s open to the public until the end of July.

Thank you, once again, for all the wonderful feedback about Seema’s portrait and the episode of Extraordinary Portraits. The portrait will be exhibited in The Loading Bay in Bradford from 1st May to 26th July. At the moment we are working to find another space for it after that. Hopefully somewhere it can continue to raise awareness of the ongoing fight for justice for the victims of the Post Office scandal.
