In case you hadn’t heard, I am launching a new print magazine this March called Café Society. Incubated the last couple months at @maxwellsocial with @davidlitwak , this will be a journal of culture and conversation. Heavy on opinion and point of view, the cultural moment in the context of society. If you’re interested in writing or contributing/collabing in other ways, drop me a message. I want this magazine to be the fodder for the very best cocktail party convo you’ve ever had, help me build it!

A few months ago we hosted a silent auction to benefit the @thejewishmuseum . Big thanks to our host @jillkargman , @cadardesigns for their jewelry, and everyone who came, celebrated with us, and helped us raise over twenty thousand dollars for an organization so near and dear to our hearts.

Sculptor and Israeli-born Manhattanite, @maayan.zilberman , elevates candy- making to the highest of arts. I was born on a kibbutz, and though I don’t have very clear memories of being there as a child, I’m sure that my sense of independence lent itself to being on my own and making things. We didn’t have traditional or commercial toys. We made everything out of recycled materials and I think that created some core skills that I use in my work now. “People are like, where are you going? They think I’m going to a party later,” she laughs. “Just recently I showed up at a meeting in a wildly long black dress with like these witch buckle boots, and everyone else was in jeans. I don’t know, I feel like, why not overdress? We’re all going to be dead one day anyway.” “My mom says I dress like a Sicilian widow. Other people say a Victorian ghost. I don’t even know what that means,” she laughs. “I guess that I’m pale and have black hair and wear long dresses? I do favor long. I never wear anything above the knees. I like a high collar and a long hem line. I’ve actually shopped at Hasidic stores before. I’m not religious. It has nothing to do with that. I just think, like, having your tits out is so unsexy. It’s fine for some people, but not for me.” @jillkargman Words by @jacbrwn Photos by @elrunrose

Behold, the inimitable crossed arms of @jillkargman on the cover of As Promised 9. Our 160 page spring issue begins with a visit to the New York icon at her stunning Manhattan home—where she pulls no punches. Plus: the photographic works of a Yarka-based Druze artist who shades herself out of the spotlight, an exploration of the native Jewish dress of the diaspora, a haute candy maker who’s made her way from the kibbutz to Manhattan, a fashion designer from Tel Aviv becomes an LVMH Prize finalist, an Ethiopian chef who’s changing Israeli food culture, and more stories from Israelis, both Jewish and Arab, and from our neighbors, both near and far.

Spent 4 years at @papermagazine where @askmrmickey @kimpaper @davidreporting @drewpsie @hunterbhill taught me everything I know, from first byline to first cover story. I wrote this one on @thesoundsband , photo’d by then up-and-coming @cassblackbird , and I also got to style it, mostly with Hedi Dior Homme out of my own closet.
