PARADISO - my 4th full length album, is available in its entirety today ⚡️🌴 This collection of songs is about missed connections and dodged bullets, and stretches from the beaches of Spain to the dark alleys of New Orleans, with pit stops in French casinos and Swedish Viking ships and New Mexican chapels etc. It was recorded live in 3 days last fall in Tremé inside the walls of an old jail soaked with midnight voodoo and crazy horse chaos. It's big. It's raw. It's my favorite. What else can I really say about it without diminishing the experience of making it...which is always the best part. Honored to be premiering ALL THAT IS SACRED at Telluride Film Festival tonight🩷 I’m very proud of this film….it’s been a crazy experience and special on so many levels. Happy Mother's Day @wendywballew from your Summer Baby 💘 In addition to You Are My Sunshine, another song that reminds me of my Mom is Stevie Wonder's 'I Just Called To Say I Love You.' She used to sing those to me when I was little, usually when it looked like a storm was coming in. I was thinking about that driving home from her brothers funeral in Dallas, following a couple of hard years where she had to figure out how to manage my dad who got sick out of nowhere. I sat down at the piano and wrote this song when I got home. So call your Mom and tell them that you love them today, or go ahead and send them this song :) Thanks for listening. Thank you Mom

So many dreams and worlds colliding on this one.... here is some BTS from perhaps the coolest experience of my professional life: Love Letter To Texas 💘 I met Jeff Nichols a couple years ago at Telluride Film festival where we both premiered films we had directed. I soon discovered we both lived in Austin, and liked Mexican food, and loved movies. We started meeting about once a month at Mi Madres to philosophize over tacos, and shoot the shit about life. We gradually started to scheme on ways we could collaborate on something in the future. About a year ago I found myself at the Marathon Motel in West Tx filming a commercial in the same room where they had filmed Paris Tx. And then on the ranch where they filmed There Will Be Blood, and at the hotel where the cast of Giant had stayed etc etc. I was proud of the commercial, but felt like we had left some on the table in terms of story and what we could do if we honed in on some of these historic locations from iconic films. What about a little film? I pitched the vague idea to Jeff and we were off. We downloaded 8 of our favorite films based in Tx and stitched together a trippy edit combining footage and storylines and characters from those 8 films. He then took that RIP and wrote a script to it with an original story based on the amalgam of the classic Texas cinema we were obsessed with and inspired by. He called a few of his friends and I called a few of mine, and here we are. You can find the full film from the link in my bio or on YouTube. We are proud to present our first narrative film, Love Letter to Texas. Written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Jeff Nichols, this film is inspired by the iconic Texas films and filmmakers who helped define how we understand the beauty and complexities of this state and its characters. With this project, we honor our past and rich history by bringing a new narrative to life. The short film stars Academy Award winner Ryan Bingham, Hassie Harrison, and Michael Shannon, and is narrated by Academy Award winner Sissy Spacek, with original new music by Ryan Bingham. I'm not sure if SXSW exists anymore, but I'm playing some shows either way and plan on having some fun. This is the loneliest time of year for a lot of people. With my sobriety date being Christmas Day, I can certainly vouch for that. I'm very grateful for another year of not being hopeless. Don't be afraid to reach out if you're hurting, or to check in when you suspect someone else might be. And remember, when you think the world is out to get you always know that someone else has it worse than you. 💘

Don't tell me I didn't tell you about this show: This Saturday 12/6 @samstownpoint celebrating the release of my 4th album PARADISO 🤙🏼 I'll have my dream 5 piece band... we're gonna play some new ones we haven't played before, perhaps a cover or two, some old deep cuts I've never played before, and of course... all the future hits.
