After a breezy refresh, this Federation bungalow in Willoughby, Sydney, straddles two centuries with elegance and ease. Incredibly functional and designed for family life, every space in this updated home is now used. "We spend most of our time in the living area at the back," explains homeowner Pricillia. Spilling over with eye candy and family focused functionality, this Sydney bungalow epitomises personality-packed design. White on white on white is how interior designer Gemma Gillett describes the renovation inspiration images client Bianca Orr shared with her in 2020. Three years and a major renovation later, it’s clear that any fear of colour was met head-on. "I guess the biggest lesson for me here was to be brave with decision-making," says homeowner Bianca. Though quaint and undeniably heritage in appearance, this facade belies an ultra-contemporary extension at its rear - just as the owners intended. Setting eyes upon this gorgeous home in Sydney's inner west, Rob and Katrina Freeman were instantly enamored by its period charm. Not wanting to attempt to "copy" its original features, the pair settled on a thoughtful restoration and the addition of something new. "We wanted to embrace a variation in architecture, and for people to be surprised and delighted at the journey through time." Take a tour via the link in bio. Photography: @aliciataylorphotography Styling @kerrieann.jones Architecture: @vaughanarchitects Interiors @ampersandinteriors Build: @burmahconstructions Words: @sarahwormwell

It was seven years ago that a couple bought this early 1980s clinker-brick bungalow. It was a tantalising time capsule that they adored, with soaring timber ceilings, split levels, wood veneers and a breezy open-plan layout. But sadly, the couple were less enamoured of the lashings of mission brown, the salmon drapes and the apricot walls that were part of the package - and so, they decided to transport the house into the 21st century. See inside former The Block contestants @ronnieandgeorgia Palm Springs-style renovation. While many would write off a crumbling asbestos-ridden cottage as too much work, The Block’s Ronnie and Georgia couldn’t look past the allure of a large corner block and the subtle hints of mid-century architecture in the rundown building. “We recognised the significant potential in the property for both subdivision and renovation,” the couple says of the property located in Embleton in Western Australia, a family-friendly suburb some 15 minutes northeast of Perth’s CBD. A beautiful, tree-lined street with wide proportions and easy parking was a drawcard for Mooey Carter and her husband, Simon Harris, when they stumbled across a double-fronted Victorian in Fitzroy. Sitting on a long, narrow block, the home had a lot of potential - and the pair were determined to realise it through a clever (and total) overhaul. See inside via the link in bio. Dubbed Hazelwood House, this bright and sunny home rose from the wreck of a very derelict cottage on a sloped block. "We focused on how to retain and refurbish the character elements of the existing cottage, bringing it back to its former glory while also complementing the traditional portion with a modern extension,” says homeowner Tom. The bold use of colour and pattern has made this renovated 1940s Melbourne home ‘pure joy’. It was a big job, and interior designer Nina Hendler of NY Design worked on the joinery and fixtures and finishes, in addition to reviewing the building designer’s floor plans where necessary. When it came to the furnishings and decorative elements, Nina admits it took a while for everyone to get in sync. “I mainly work on more monochromatic and pared-back projects, and they were sending me totally out-there inspiration,” says Nina. “I took a pause, then just ran with it. It was a fun, risky and welcome challenge that’s left me hungry for more." Photographer: @blachford Interior Design: @nydesign_aus Styling: @karinbochnik_id Build: @kostasconstructions

Two serial renovators in NSW finally took a break from flipping houses to create a permanent home for their young family. "We really wanted a house that felt homely and like people lived here," says Luka, the owner of @boobtofood . "I was born in England and I've always been drawn to English cottage-style houses, but with my own modern touch," Luka says. Despite its hard exterior, this new build in Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula has a soft spot for sustainability, with an aim to combat rising sea levels of the nearby ocean. With so many exceptional details and material choices, it’s hard to choose just one favourite feature – but above all, this is a space of serenity and calm that proves that looks can be deceiving. Take a tour via the link in our bio. Photography: @nikoleramsay Stylist: emma_omeara Architect: @auhaus Build: @ldhomes Words: Kate Hassett

Situated on a narrow, 12 metre block in Victoria's bayside suburb of St Kilda, Baker Street House rises from street level in brick and glazed panel glory. Whilst inspired by mid-century and Palm Springs, one of the home's main drawcards is its strong indoor/outdoor connection; a very Australian addition to the design. Outside, an invitingly blue swimming pool runs the length of the property, whilst an entertaining space sits sheltered under a vine-covered steel frame pergola. Take a tour via the link in bio. Photography: @michaelkaiphoto Architect: @pleysierperkins Words: @lucycf94
