INJOY ENTERTAINMENT SPOTLIGHT: ROWDIES IN LOVE by Hari Krishnan’s inDANCE On #internationaldanceday #worlddanceday (April 29) I’m proud to produce and spotlight Hari Krishnan’s @indanceglobal ROWDIES IN LOVE. The occasion couldn’t be more apropos as we just arrived at the renowned @jacobspillow to perform four performances at the Doris Duke Theatre May 1-3, 2026 (tix in bio). It’s full circle as this is where the work was incubated. ROWDIES IN LOVE is a radical, queer contemporary dance work with modern Bharatanatyam accents. It features 9 captivating male and nonbinary dancers exploring intimacy, intensity and sensuality by alternating explosive physicality and sensuous depths with exceptional “kick-ass” technique and rigor. ROWDIES captures a complex multiplicity of ideas while also asking a simple and age-old human question: Why do we fall in love? “That led to this amazing, astonishing, dare I say one-of-a-kind, spark,” Krishnan says of the personal yet expansive, collaborative piece. ROWDIES is singular in its reshaping of ideas around Indian & contemporary dance, and representation of queer identity. “For the first time, I was able to integrate all of these different streams of interest, 35 years of research, and humanity together in a single work.” ROWDIES IN LOVE is available for touring worldwide 2026-2028. Contact Cindy Sibilsky for details. 📸 Photos 1-6 by Sandy Aldieri @perceptionsct from the @wescfa premiere, 7-9 by Nicole Wilson @nicolewilsonphoto from the @apap365 showcase, 10-12 by Tafari Melisiwe @theindigenouslens in Chicago, 13-19 by Yuanjian Liu @yuanjianliu at @uchicago @loganuchicago (final photo by Cindy Sibilsky at Jacob’s Pillow, day of arrival) #rowdiesinlove #indance #dance

Looking forward to inDANCE’s upcoming spring performances of “ROWDIES IN LOVE?” Step Inside the Pillow Lab with choreographer Hari Krishnan as he was first developing the work in 2024. To create “ROWDIES IN LOVE,” Krishnan – a choreographer who specializes in Bharatanatyam, queer, and contemporary dance from global perspectives – used an original movement vocabulary to explore representations of precision and queer intimacy. His residency at the Pillow was a very special one- working with a cohort of eight men dancers, and drawing inspiration from the legacy of Ted Shawn and his Men Dancers while also extending this legacy by imbuing it with an out-proud-loud queer affirmation and thoughtful representations of diversity today. Krishnan investigated the clichés of hyper-masculinity, ultimately burning these clichés by fluently shifting gender and contemporaneously shedding archaic cultural stereotypes. “Heated Rivalry” meets contemporary Bharatanatyam in Hari Krishnan’s “ROWDIES IN LOVE.” Created for his company inDANCE, the work captures a complex multiplicity of ideas while also asking a simple and age-old human question: Why do we fall in love? A culmination of over 35 years of dance-making, “ROWDIES IN LOVE” brings Krishnan’s investigation of the Indian classical dance form Bharatanatyam boldly into the next phase of his creative arc. Since he was a young dance-maker, Krishnan, who is also a professor in the dance department of Wesleyan University, has been interested in the interplay between the study of a particular movement discipline, such as Bharatanatyam, with global life experiences, such as being an immigrant or being queer. “ROWDIES IN LOVE,” pushes Krishnan’s unique choreographic language to new heights. HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY Y’ALL! In the “Times” we currently live in, inDANCE greets you all, with trepidation…just sharing “LOVE”, in all it’s iterations, SADLY, seems like a risky venture…these days. FORTUNATELY, “LOVE” DOES NOT LEND ITSELF, EASILY, TO CONSTRAINED CONFINEMENT…(of most sorts)!!! Hate is hard work, LOVE IS EASIER. LOVE yourself & others, IT REALLY IS THAT SIMPLE… inDANCE’s “ROWDIES IN LOVE” Dancers: Demetris Charalambous @detherealc Spenser Stroud @spstroud Logan Center for the Arts, University of Chicago, Spring 2025 Photography: Yuanjian Liu
