Here is a sneak peek of the new book I’ve illustrated for @davidzwirnerbooks , written by @doroglobus 🙃. It was pure pleasure to work on a book that helps kids understand the process of making an art exhibition. I’m really happy with the final book, the colour pops! Thank you @doroglobus@apracticeforeverydaylife@davidzwirnerbooks for making this project so much fun. The book comes out on September 28th and you can preorder from all the usual spots 😎
I’m so happy to share my new celebrant website, Colourful Life. It’s been an amazing experience getting to this point, including meeting a wonderful group of fellow celebrants during my training. I am now qualified to write and deliver both wedding and funeral ceremonies! Thank you to @sophiedutton for the beautiful web design and @ap.picard for the build. Have a look, at: 💛💚
From a while back now, how time flies. An ident I directed in 2015 with @andy_d_baker for BBC4 based on a drawing by @peterblakeartist .
Peter said: “I talked to my daughter Rose, who is more conversant with animation, and she agreed to take on the project with animator Andy Baker.
Rose found an image from an illustration I had made in the 1950s, of a girl with lots of thought bubbles coming out of her head. This sat very nicely with the BBC Four ethos, being inquisitive, thoughtful and innovative.
In these bubbles we substituted the images I had originally produced with found objects from my studio. We loved the idea of black and white television and wanted to give the ident a sixties mood without being too retrospective.’
🖤🤍
Really loved working on this one.
So excited to get an early copy of this one, which was an absolute joy to work on from start to finish.
Firstly a special shout out to (the designer) @sophiedutton who transformed this book into something so considered, fresh and playful.
Also to @dkbooks who were so lovely and efficient to work with (and let us use loads of pantones!).
Written by @millington_ruth , it’s such a great read and repped by the steady hands of @springliterary . I’ll share more nearer the publication date, which is August!
So nice to be asked to design the tour poster for @courtneybarnett ‘s mini UK tour 💚💙💚
The poster is inspired by a story that Courtney told about when she was working on the album and struggling to finish this particular song. She noticed a praying mantis sitting on her doorframe, which she took to be a sign of good luck from the universe. Apparently the mantis represents patience, perseverance and a guide for those who need direction!
💚
I’ve loved making tour posters and merch for Courtney over the years… I’ve attached a few in the slideshow. I think my first one was in 2018!
💙
The Mantis poster will be available from the merch stand of this tour, and I will have a few to sell too. I’m excited to see her play in Margate on Thursday 🙂
It’s something I have been thinking about for a few years and I’m finally doing something about it. I’m off to do the training course at the beginning of February, and very soon I will be a qualified celebrant! ❤️🩷❤️ Feel free to follow along at @colourful.life.celebrant !
Some sneak peaks from my next picture book ‘We Made a Song’, written by @doroglobus and published by @bloomsburychildrens .
The book follows a fictional band I invented called ‘The Beaks’, as they write and release a hit song. Along the way we meet the huge team that help them to do so. It was so fun to include lots of little references in this one for the adult reader to (hopefully) enjoy too. I especially enjoyed imagining them making a music video 🐦🐤🐧
The book is out in spring 🌱
I feel like I’ve played it safe this year, reading lots of hyped new releases and booker long-lists. Next year I want to try and read a bit more widely- any recommendations are very welcome! I’ve loved seeing more and more people posting their reading lists on instagram this year too.
Stand out book of 2025 was Nova Scotia House by Charlie Porter, I loved the voice, I found it so moving, and it made me really think about what’s important in life… I think about it all the time and i’ve recommended it to a billion friends.
Still loving the library, and keeping a log of my reading on @rb_booklog ✌️
