MFA Performing Research!✨ The Dance Department is pleased to present Performing Research, a public symposium featuring live research presentations by MFA candidates Lindy Fines, Isabel Estrada-Jamison, Wan Rong Tseng, Richard Sayama, Hallie Chametzy, and Fatima Logan-Alston. This symposium was developed within the Modes of Inquiry graduate seminar led by Assistant Professor Jonathan González.  This solo was one of my first steps in exploring how devotion lives in the body—through memory, sensation, and the quiet weight we carry.

Peruvian choreographer Maria Angela Talavera Tejeda (@sombraqueasombra ) takes us deep into her latest creation, “Doves don’t Fly at Night”, a piece born from her maternal lineage and a desire to connect with something primal. 💥 La MaMa Moves! Dance Festival presents “Emerging Choreographers: Maya Redding, Darvejon Jones, Eve Jacobs, Austin Marquez, Cory Villegas/Soul Dance Co” from May 16–19! The Hunter College MFA Program in Dance (@hunterdancemfa ), launched in 2018 and directed by maura nguyễn donohue (@mauranguyendonohue ), is for returning professionals seeking to investigate the role of dance as a vehicle for positive change in the world. The La MaMa Moves! program includes works by artists who have taught in a variety of genres at Hunter. ‍Maiya Redding ‘22 presents excerpts of “Bright Lies, Dark Truths” a trio that explores code switching, black masculine identity, and denial. Darvejon Jones ‘23 presents “a n t a r e s” - a work in progress built upon inquiries concerning liberation in Jones’s Black Dance praxis. Eve Jacobs ‘24 brings “Four Statements on Attention,” a work for four dancers which stretches toward deep focus through movement and music.
