Today you can listen to the very first episode of the Misunderstandings podcast, with my guest Banks Violette. It was an absolute pleasure talking to Banks about his work in the context of my research into understanding and its opposite. We talked about Steven Parrino, new gothic art, and the stories that art can tell. Thank you to Tick Tack in Antwerp for hosting us in their space and Christopher Gerberding for producing the episode. Available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Link in Bio.
Misunderstandings is a series about art, understanding, and its opposite. Presented by Krzysztof Honowski, Misunderstandings probes the productive potential of miscommunication. What began as two books of in-depth conversations is now a podcast series.
This inaugural episode features artist Banks Violette. A pioneer of new gothic art in early 2000s New York, Banks experienced a meteoric rise, including a seminal show at the Whitney Museum. Having stepped away from showing art for nearly a decade, he's now back, and after a major retrospective at BPS22, Charleroi, he began 2026 with Wish You Were Here. This was a multi-storey installation in collaboration with Stephen O'Malley at Tick Tack in Antwerp, Belgium. And it is in the basement of Tick Tack that this conversation was recorded.
Misunderstandings is produced by Christopher Gerberding for Temporary Room, his nomadic curatorial project. A new edition of Misunderstandings, combining both books of conversations, with Mi You, Felicita, Clare Molloy, and Bishop Black, among others, is available to purchase @temporaryroom

Our film "Beasts Of No Nation," which screened in the German Competition at the Oberhausen International Short Film Festival in 2020, has been invited @filmfestdresden for the second time. We're thrilled! It will be shown tonight at 7 p.m. as part of the special program "World in Turmoil."
"At a time when social orders worldwide are undergoing noticeable changes, “The Currency Lab – Law & Order” poses fundamental questions:
What notions of law and order shape our present? What historical continuities persist—from existing power relations to social structures and global interdependencies?
And how can these developments be countered with alternative, solidarity-based, and forward-looking practices?"
The Currency Lab – Law & Order is a project of the C. Rockefeller Center for the Contemporary Arts in cooperation with Filmfest Dresden, the Network for Media Art, and geh8.

The second, expanded edition of my publication Misunderstandings was released this month by Pilcrow Editions. The book contains conversations about understanding and its opposite with Harold Offeh, Peter Cant, Mel E. Logan, Mi You, Clare Molloy, felicita, Bishop Black, and Liad Kantorowicz. Originally released in 2017, the book has now been supplemented with additional conversations, essays, and illustrations. Thank you to Paul Clinton for writing the illuminating essay "Muddying the Waters" and Christopher Gerberding for his belief in the project. The book is available online direct from the publisher, as well as from the Saint-Martin Bookshop in Brussels, and Buchhandlung Walther König internationally. Link in Bio.

Today at 2pm CET on @674fm , you can listen to the latest episode of Sonic Fictions, "As Night Draws In." This episode (I think it's the 18th?) is inspired by the writing of Wendy Trevino @cruel_fiction and her collection "Cruel Fiction," which posits that sometimes you have to burn things down to rebuild. What I find so inspiring about contemporary music and poetry is how people are really applying tools that pretty much all of us have to make collages of word, sound, and thought that you could never have expected to exist before. And these collages really deal with what it means to be alive right now, today. The simplicity of this act and its implications give me hope in these troubling times. You can listen back to the show on Mixcloud now. Link in Bio. Mixcloud won't let me post a tracklist 🤷🏻 so here it is below:
