Today you can listen to the very first episode of the Misunderstandings podcast, with my guest Banks Violette. It was an absolute pleasure talking to Banks about his work in the context of my research into understanding and its opposite. We talked about Steven Parrino, new gothic art, and the stories that art can tell. Thank you to Tick Tack in Antwerp for hosting us in their space and Christopher Gerberding for producing the episode. Available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Link in Bio. Misunderstandings is a series about art, understanding, and its opposite. Presented by Krzysztof Honowski, Misunderstandings probes the productive potential of miscommunication. What began as two books of in-depth conversations is now a podcast series. This inaugural episode features artist Banks Violette. A pioneer of new gothic art in early 2000s New York, Banks experienced a meteoric rise, including a seminal show at the Whitney Museum. Having stepped away from showing art for nearly a decade, he's now back, and after a major retrospective at BPS22, Charleroi, he began 2026 with Wish You Were Here. This was a multi-storey installation in collaboration with Stephen O'Malley at Tick Tack in Antwerp, Belgium. And it is in the basement of Tick Tack that this conversation was recorded. Misunderstandings is produced by Christopher Gerberding for Temporary Room, his nomadic curatorial project. A new edition of Misunderstandings, combining both books of conversations, with Mi You, Felicita, Clare Molloy, and Bishop Black, among others, is available to purchase @temporaryroom #livesofperformers #banksviolette #misunderstandings #krzysztofhonowski #stevenparrino

Congratulations @banks_violette_616 on your fantastic show, soundtracked by @stephenomalley74 at @ticktack.be 🪩❤️‍🔥 The installation is a moving tribute to a lost friend and it was a real privilege to be able to spend some time with it and Banks before the opening. Banks is the first participant in the new series of Misunderstandings that I will be releasing throughout the year in collaboration with @temporaryroom Thank you @christopher_gerberding for producing this new series of Misunderstandings conversations and thank you Tijs, Mathias and @mariabramenko for hosting us this week!! I personally can't wait for the release of the soundtrack with an essay by @arnoldfriend6 on @daisrecords 🤓🦇 If you're in Antwerp, then this is a must see!! #banksviolette #ticktack #misunderstandings #krzysztofhonowski #mariaabramenko

Opening hours: Sat + Sun, 1–5:30 PM or by appointment. Thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening of ‘There it goes, the dream’ with @onur.abaci_ @nina_paszkowski @kaylottz @__hannahschneider__ The exhibition is alive — it breathes and transforms with the passing hours, stirred by shifting light and the quiet moods that pour through the old medieval windows. Each visit reveals something new, something unseen. We had such a lovely evening – full of inspiring conversations, warm connections, and meaningful encounters. Co-curating this show with @malte_taffner has been an incredibly positive, healthy, and joyful experience — a truly nourishing collaboration on every level. In collaboration with @kr.hombyo we’re very excited to announce the opening of the exhibition ‚There It Goes, the Dream‘ on this Saturday at 6 PM. In this group exhibition, four artists, converge within the walls of a late medieval timber-framed house, its foundations laid in the 16th century, where time itself seems to linger in the beams and walls. Each individual position drifts thematically within the spectrum, spanning from the expansive notion of disappearance to the essence of being. Today‘s focus lies on @kaylottz Kay Lotte Pommer Born in Bremen in 1995, Kay Lotte Pommer lives and works in Leipzig, where she’s completing her diploma in Installation and Spatial Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (graduating 2025). Blending artistic and curatorial approaches, Pommer has been part of numerous exhibition projects and is a member of the curatorial team at Bistro 21, an independent Leipzig art space, since 2023. Her recent exhibitions include a solo at Super Bien! Berlin, a duo at Bsmnt Gallery, and group shows at Museum of Fine Arts Leipzig, Department of Art Chicago, Galerija Reflektor (Serbia), and Phoenix Athens, among others. Pommer’s installations transform everyday objects into poetic fragments that invite viewers into open, interactive spatial narratives. Her work explores the fleeting nature of daily environments, challenging how we perceive places, “non-places,” and the social behaviors they shape. At the core of her practice is steel—a material she bends and reshapes into structural, conceptual, and pictorial forms. Her aesthetic moves between the familiar and the abstract, tracing the presence and memory of those who inhabit space. #KayLottePommer #ContemporaryArt #installationart #SpatialArt #EmergingArtist #ArtistToWatch #artincontext #ArtAndSpace #ConceptualArt #poeticspaces #leipzigart #germanartist #europeancontemporaryart
