Tonight, Fr Nov 10th, 20h at Philharmonie Köln
& Sun Nov 12th, 18h at Philharmonie Essen - two concerts with @ensemblenikel &
WDR orchestra & Peter Rundel (cond)
Finally, after working on it for several years, my Tetralogy TZIMTZUM for Nikel ensemble and Orchestra will have its premiere (the full cycle - 70 minutes long) this Sunday at festival Essen NOW!
Two pieces (Tikkun & WP K'lipot) of the Tetralogy will be played at @koelnerphilharmonie
tonight.
The cycle is inspired by kabbalistic myths of creation, images, concepts:
I) Reshimot (imprints, 2020) for soloists, winds, brass, percussion, timpani, pno and harps (no strings)
II) Sh'virah (shattering, 2020) for soloists only
IV) Tikkun (repair/healing, 2021) for soloists, strings and percussion
III) K'lipot (shells, 2023) for soloists and large orchestra
[I decided to change the order - considering the broken state of our world - tikkun olam, the process of healing the world (everyone to be part of) seems far, a hope yet, a vision to pursue (hopefully)]
***
"And when enough holy sparks have been gathered, the broken vessels will be restored, and Tikkun Olam, the repair of the world, awaited for so long, will finally be complete. Therefore it should be the aim of everyone to raise these sparks from whereever they are imprisoned and to elevate them to holiness by the power of their soul." (Isaac Luria, from the book of Zohar)
***
Thank you, Nikel - Yaron Deutsch, Patrick Stader, Antoine Françoise and Brian Archinal! - Peter Rundel and the WDR Orchestra and WDR sound magicians - for bringing light to everything!
Special thanks to Patrick Hahn! And to my publisher Ricordi.

(Inmidst a dark world) I can share something positive and very important to me: finally the digital archive of my mother's art is ready and online!
My mother Elisabeth Naomi Reuter was an amazing artist with a manifold and unique voice. She studied in the 1960ies at the Werkkunstschule Hanover (among her teachers was Bauhaus photographer Umbo). After her studies she lived as a freelance artist and illustrator. Her art was always uncompromising, sometimes uncomfortable. In her work she often sought the bizarre, the uncommon or outcasted. She liked broken colours, very fine brushes and hard pencils. The works of the 1970ies have almost no people, but insects, bugs, bizarre creatures, whereas her late works till her death (Nov 2017) were focusing mainly on the human, the pain, the silenced voices, it's all in their faces, which often have no mouth but speaking eyes and in the eyes you see the strength and hope, despite all.
In the 1980ies she started creating picture books with her own text on topics that weren't popular at that time for children's books.. Her most important book (Judith und Lisa/Best friends) from 1988 was one of the first books for children (age 6 and up) talking about the Shoa. It was translated into several languages, but my mother also was confronted with a lot of hate for it (even death threats). This book will be republished by the end of the year at Hentrich & Hentrich. My mother also wrote children's books addressing topics such as illness (Christian, 1989), violence against children (Marie und ihre Mutter), or racism/islamophobia (Soham, 1993).
She herself had not an easy life (starting with a violent, abusive father) and was a very strong woman.She's an inspiration as an artist and human.
I hope this digital archive will help that her outstanding art will be known more, that the quality and importance will be recognized.
Huge thanks to web designer Kanta Babette Glaser and graphic designer Nicolas Wiese!!!

Today is the premiere of WE (2022–24) — an opera for 9 voices, choir, orchestra, instrumental soloists and electronics — at Oper Dortmund, with an extraordinary cast (led by the incredible Seth Carico and Gloria Rehm) and brought to the stage in a haunting production by Eva-Maria Höckmayr, together with Fabian Liszt (stage design), Julia Rösler (costumes), Krzysztof Honowski (video).
WP 14 May 2026 — Theater Dortmund
The libretto is based on Yevgeny Zamyatin’s dystopian novel We (1920), compiled by myself and translated into English by Oleg Krokhalev. Its vision of total transparency, surveillance, and enforced happiness became a foundational text of modern dystopian literature. The first plans for this opera began in 2020. Since then, the world has repeatedly washed over this work:
Dystopia seems to be our present.
WE is a dark work — but not without hope. Imagination, empathy, courage, resistance, love point toward another possibility.
My deepest thanks to everyone involved:
to the singers - Seth Carico, Gloria Rehm, Sooyeon Lee, Daegyun Jeong, David DQ Lee, Natascha Valentin, Ruth Katharina Peeck, Morgan Moody, Sungho Kim - for your courage, imagination and dedication;
to Eva-Maria and her entire team, for this visionary staging;
to Sebastian Berweck, Seth Josel, and Moritz Koch — for flying this spaceship (and rocking the earth);
to Michael Wendeberg, for his profound musical leadership; to the orchestra, to the choir, Fabio Mancini, and all additional ensembles and extras;
to Olivia Lee-Gundermann for all your support and to Jörg Grünsfelder for managing the sound (under not exactly easy circumstances) and to everyone behind the scenes at the opera house;
to Nikita Dubov and Daniel Schindler (dramaturgy);
to Heribert Germeshausen and Oper Dortmund for the commission;
to Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung and Kunststiftung NRW for their support;
to Oleg Krokhalev for his sensitive English translation;
to my publisher Ricordi and especially to Daniela Brendel, who was accompanying this work so closely from its very beginning till today.
And finally: to my family - to my children, and to Jascha, to whom this opera is dedicated.

Delighted to share this first excerpt from the world premiere performance of Sarah Nemtsov’s „EMP“ for violin & electric guitar. Composed already in 2023 for Irvine Arditti and myself we finally had a chance to sync diaries and perform it last month at the Interfinity festival. The Program also included two additional duets - a world premiere by Zeynep Toraman and an earlier work by Kelley Sheehan - along with solos by Lisa Illean & Rebecca Saunders. Thank you very much to Zeynep & Sarah for the new beautiful pieces and no less to Lukas Loss, Interfinity director, making all this possible & joyous.

Happy after inspiring days in Paris at Ircam, working with Augustin Muller on new soundscapes (which I could only dream of before), finally test them (2 days of tryouts) with ensemble Contrechamps - for the upcoming premier of my new piece NUN VI [We may sink and settle on the waves] (2026) for 6 instruments and electronics - WP June 13th Ircam Espro - Festival Manifeste.
Thank you so much

Looking forward to seeing you all again soon in June
PS Plus being so grateful for spending the time with my three kids in Paris, we could explore the city a bit in the free time, its streets, some places and museums, so beautiful, I absolutely fell in love with the city. These ten days were an oasis 🙏
🔥 Understanding bursts of electromagnetic energy in a new way thanks to this world premiere of @sarahnemtsov ‘s “EMP” for electric guitar and amplified violin. A highlight was having Sarah in the audience with us to celebrate the piece, which she composed specifically for these performers, Yaron Deutsch and Irvine Arditti, back in 2023.
