It feels so rewarding and pleasing to see BASTION Side Table in my workshop. It took six weeks from concept to failing to failing again and to finally getting it ready for the @alcova.milano exhibition together with @fromm.lab
BASTION Side Table‘s structure employs the classic Japanese joint Isuka Tsugi, which echoes the triangulated crenellations, further evoking the architectural features of fortification. The meticulously crafted joint creates an interlocking form that both reinforces the table and highlights the dialogue between Arabic architecture and Japanese artisanal heritage.

The BASTION Side Table traces correspondences between Qatari fort geometry and Japanese woodworking, translating elements of the ancient strongholds and the precise forms of Japanese joinery into a contemporary design object that showcases their
shared visual logic.

I am back from Milan Design Week 2026, with a mixed bag of feelings.
➡️ The silent but continuous takeover of Fuorisalone by fashion brands is a highly discussed and controversial topic for sure. 💸
➡️ Everything seems to be „immersive“ today, which is such a worn-out concept, similar to „connecting the past with the present to shape the future.“ 😩
➡️ Also, I noticed a lack of multiple and crucial layers in many design pieces, it seems to be more important to have pieces for short-term visual stimulation rather than using design as a vehicle to find and drive research, purpose, meaning, values, material while bringing all together in aesthetic interpretation. 🫙
➡️ Nevertheless, I also made pleasant acquaintances and found very impressive new works, you need to dig deeper these days but once you found them the joy is sparking. Here are my Milan Design Week 2026 highlights:

KÖNIGSWINTER Light Sculpture MONO Edition
KÖNIGSWINTER is a light sculpture made from decades-old corrugated fibreglass panels reclaimed from an abandoned hillside hut in the forests above Königswinter, a town at the edge of the Siebengebirge nature reserve in western Germany.

the königswinter light sculpture by @heiligobjects is part of the königswinter collection. each piece uses reclaimed amber-gold fibreglass and is set in a maple or oak frame.
Ever since the stunning installations of @_desertx or @designspacealula , the desert became a strong medium to express art.
Also to me, the desert has been an inspirational source for creativity and freedom. Inspired by one of my trips to Oman’s Wahiba Sands desert, my Pagode Wahiba stool plays with hand-pressed wave structures, inspired by the wind-formed dunes which I witnessed during sunrise and sunset.
In the celebration of my exhibition at @dubaidesignweek , I captured the Pagode Wahiba stool in the desert of Dubai.
