Week 1 as Mayor of Hackney ✅
From appointing my incredibly talented cabinet to meeting with community groups, leaders and campaigners who are doing incredible work in our borough, it’s been a great start to the job.
Looking forward to week 2 and getting stuck in to delivering on our manifesto commitments, with our amazing team of council officers.
Join Hackney residents outside the Town Hall to mark the 78th anniversary of Nakba Day.
The historic catastrophe saw Palestinian people displaced from their homes and society destroyed by the Israeli Settler State in 1948.
In honour of this history and of the destruction caused by the ongoing Nakba, we reflect on the work that still needs to be done locally to achieve the Palestinian call for BDS.

You might’ve heard commentators and recently defeated Labour councillors mocking Green Party voters for supposedly thinking local elections could free Palestine, campaigners and Green Party council hopefuls were clear on where they can help Palestinians: pensions
In England, local councils control pension investment funds worth millions of pounds, but these funds often include investments in companies complicit in war crimes and genocide in Gaza.
I spoke to councillors, campaigners and academics in the London boroughs of Islington and Hackney to find out what the recent local election results mean for Palestine in my first article for @thenewarabanalysis

➡️ swipe through to see our local arms protests at companies involved in the supply chain for Israel’s weaponry used to commit genocide, ethnic cleansing and impose apartheid in Palestine.
A complicity that begins right at your doorstep - these local businesses have a legal obligation to prevent genocide and not be complicit by aiding in the deaths of Palestinians.
1️⃣ Attewell - Registered on the main UK arms export license for the F-35 programme.
2️⃣ CPI TMD Technologies Ltd - Produces components for military radar transmitters, and exports them to a range of arms companies.
There can be no business as usual for companies profiting from death, occupation, and the destruction of civilian life.
We demand a comprehensive arms embargo on Israel NOW‼️
Some shops in the Hackney Apartheid-Free Zone. Community boycott of Israeli goods in Hackney. #hackney #freepalestine🇵🇸✌️ #boycottisrael #boycottdivestmentsanctions
Palestinian child tortured by IOF and not a peep from our mainstream media in the UK. Surgeons report children shot in the groin and head, no outrage from our PM or most politicians or our media.
But As usual our media and #politicians bow down to their Misraeli handlers when they snap their fingers. But say nothing about dangerous child killers who are British IOF soldiers walking among us, and who are not subjected to the most basic checks when they leave or return from G&za and W&st B@nk .
But yet the right wing narrative is that #migrants are by default criminals… who know what they have done..but yet those who have documented their crimes against humanity on social #media walk amongst us.. where’s the outrage and concern 🤔
Exceptionalism is real…
