Today, Sunday 22nd June 2025 we celebrate the 77th anniversary of the arrival of the Empire Windrush. Earlier this week, I joined my parliamentary colleagues and community members at the Government Windrush Reception at Downing Street. It was an absolute honour to see my constituent John Denny leading the event with the opening speech to introduce the Prime Minister. His powerful words resonated with so many people in the gardens and many more beyond the walls of Westminster. Today I joined the community at St John the Divine church for their annual Windrush Sunday Mass. The sermon was led by Rt Revd Deon K Johnson, Bishop of Missouri - a proud Bajan Windrush descendent. There is an excellent Windrush Generation photo exhibition photo story by Jim Grover running until 20th July in the church hall - it was a pleasure to see Jim at the mass today. It was great to join my two Lambeth colleagues and the Minister for Citizenship & Migration at Windrush Square for the annual Big Caribbean Lunch. The vibe and atmosphere was lively and it’s always great to bump into old friends in the heart of Brixton We talk about the resilience and strength of the Windrush Generation- I see it lived out in many of the constituents I represent across Vauxhall & Camberwell Green. It is great to listen to their stories and learn from their experiences in how we build a more inclusive and welcoming society across the UK.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, 96 UK parliamentarians have demanded sanctions on Israel for war crimes against Palestinians and systematic violations of international law, including imposing targeted sanctions, a ban on trade with illegal settlements, and a suspension of the existing UK-Israel trade agreement. Responding to the letter, Caabu’s Head of Parliamentary Affairs, Joseph Willits, said: “This letter shows that there is increasing parliamentary support for the UK to take tougher action against Israel. As Palestinians face violent erasure, including Israeli imposed genocide, starvation and ethnic cleansing, the UK government simply is not doing enough, and an increasing number of parliamentarians are also coming to this realisation. Successive governments cannot claim to not know how communities across the West Bank are being violently dispossessed and forcibly transferred, which many of the signatories have visited. What will it take for UK government action to match up with the horrifying situation and systemic violence on the ground, and to act on what parliamentarians, the British public, and most importantly, Palestinians have long been saying? Palestinians deserve an end to these horrors, leading to proper justice and accountability.”

Diane Abbott has warned she will not be "intimidated" as she vowed to remain an MP "as long as it is possible". The first Black woman elected to Parliament in 1987 has claimed she has been blocked from standing for re-election by party bosses. But Keir Starmer yesterday insisted no decision had been taken, telling reporters on the campaign trail in Worcester it was "not true" she had been barred. 🔗 Click the link in our bio to read more 📷 Images: @gettyimages #dianneabbott #hackneyabbott #uklabour #ukpolitics #ukhouseofcommons #keirstarmer #hackney #generalelection #labourparty

Frank Hester, the largest donor to the British Conservative Party, has been found to have made inflammatory remarks about MP Diane Abbott by The Guardian newspaper. It’s worth noting that Hester’s company, TPP, operates online GP services under a private contract awarded by former Prime Minister David Cameron. Hester has donated over £10 million to the Conservative Party in the last year alone.. #hatecrime #racism #brownwashing #ukpolitics #torydonorcorruption #istandwithdiane #political #racialhate #dianeabbot #hackneyabbott

I wanna be @kamiqualake when I grow up 🥹🥰 ✊🏾I couldn’t think of a better way to end Black History Month than being surrounded by the incredible talents that make up the @blackcommsnetwork  and chatting it up with THEE @hackneyabbott . 💓A massive thanks to the amazing @kamiqualake and @nia_fagbohun for inviting me to this delicious lunch in partnership with @the.independent . 😅 One of the best things about these gatherings is that they give you a chance to meet people who you’ve been following and rooting for for years but have never actually spoken to IRL. #bhm #events #pr #fashionpsychologist

VIOLENCE UNSEEN 📷 @aliciabrucephoto “The mindless abuse has been characteristically racist and sexist. I have had death threats, and people tweeting that I should be hanged and raped.” Diane Abbott, MP Photographed for @zerotolerancescotland Diane Abbott received a disproportionately large amount of online abuse and was the target of almost a third (31.61%) of all abusive tweets to MPs in the period from January to June 2017.1 She received even more abuse in the six weeks leading up to 2017’s snap general election, when 45.14% of abusive tweets were aimed at her. The type of abuse she receives often focuses on her gender and race, and includes threats of sexual violence. Women in politics — particularly black and minority ethnic women — face an extraordinary amount of abuse, particularly on social media. This abuse is an attempt to silence women and prevent other women getting involved in politics or otherwise expressing their opinions publicly. To achieve equal representation in politics, this needs to be challenged. Diane Abbott is the UK’s first black female MP and currently Labour MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington, as well as Shadow Home Secretary. 1)Amnesty International UK, Unsocial Media: Tracking Twitter Abuse against Women MPs • • Over the past decades there have been dramatic changes to public attitudes around some aspects of men’s violence against women. Yet domestic abuse, sexual violence and other forms of violence against women are still prevalent in Scotland today, especially for groups of women who face other forms of discrimination; women with learning disabilities, women in prostitution, lesbian, bisexual and trans (LBT) and black and minority ethnic women. Zero Tolerance and I have worked with groups and individuals affected by men’s violence to create a series of photographs that explore the types of violence against women that remain unseen and unacknowledged by mainstream society. The photographs shine a light on the types of violence against women that still remain unacceptably hidden and better represent the constellation of women’s lived experiences. #womenphotograph #womenphotographlondon @womenphotograph
