On Friday 8th May, the Art department took selected KS3 students - our most improved and outstanding contributors from each class - to the National Portrait Gallery.
The students were exceptional, engaging confidently with a range of portraiture across different periods and demonstrating impressive knowledge, observational drawing skills and enthusiasm.
Art teacher, Mr Mander said: “Our students represented the school impeccably, showing respect and maturity throughout the trip. They’re such creative thinkers with inquisitive minds, and their skills have progressed a lot this year.”
This morning, we were very pleased to welcome The Riot Act into school to deliver an engaging workshop for our Year 9 students.
The session focused on peer pressure and encouraged our students to explore how everyday choices, influences, and social situations can impact their personal development and wellbeing. Through discussion and interactive activities, students were supported to build confidence, reflect on their values, and develop strategies for making positive, informed decisions.
The workshop formed an important part of our ongoing commitment to supporting students’ wellbeing and personal growth. 😊
We hope everyone had a lovely break and enjoyed their first day back at Stokey!
It was a busy end to last term, but one of the best events was undoubtedly our Sixth Form Concert! Well done to all our students involved. You made staff and all your parents and carers very proud!
Happy World Book Day!
At SNS, we like Word Book Day so much we turned it into SNS Litfest - a week-long celebration of all things reading!
All week, we’ve welcomed amazing authors to teach our students about the creative writing process. A massive thank you to Miriam Gold, Ben Pester, Ben Tomlinson and Sir Sigmarsdottir (visiting tomorrow) for imparting their wisdom and creativity.
And it hasn’t stopped there! We’ve also had:

This morning all staff and students at Stoke Newington School & Sixth Form took part in the ‘Girls Can! – Great Big Live Assembly’, hosted by the Sanctuary Foundation.
Together, we celebrated the courage and contribution of women and girls - reflecting on the power of voice, resilience and opportunity.
The Great Big Live Assembly brought inspiration and challenge, featuring:
🎉 A live quiz for teachers
📣 Shout-outs to schools across the country
💬 Inspiring messages from women across the UK
💻 A Minecraft programmer sharing her journey into tech
🌍 A powerful and moving story from Afghanistan
It was an opportunity for our students to learn, to be challenged, and to hear real stories of determination and hope. Moments like these help to empower young people - especially girls - to speak up with confidence, pursue their ambitions, and know that their voices matter.
We are committed to creating spaces where every student feels seen, heard and inspired to make a difference.
We hope our Year 8 parents and carers are looking forward to Options Evening tomorrow!
What an exciting time for our Year 8s! You’ll be able to get all the information you need about the options process. See you tomorrow!
We hope you’ve had a lovely half term! As we look towards the second half of spring term, we’re getting excited for the second ever SNS Litfest - our week long celebration of World Book Day 2026! 📚 It’s happening from Monday 2nd March to Friday 6th March. 🗓️

Last week, our Year 8 students took to the stage for the First Give Charity Programme Final! Each form group delivered passionate presentations championing local charities and the causes that matter to them. Their commitment to social action was truly outstanding.
A huge congratulations to our winning form, who impressed the judges with their heartfelt advocacy for Hackney Foodbank. We’re so proud of their hard work, empathy, and dedication to making a real difference in our community. 💛
Well done to all our Year 8 students for their remarkable efforts - you are changemakers in the making! 🌍✨
Our teaching staff took part in a valuable CPD session this week, spending time looking at students’ exercise books and sharing effective strategies to enhance their teacher feedback. A great opportunity for collaboration, reflection, and professional growth. 📚
Our Year 11s have been hard at work during their after school revision sessions! It’s great to see their dedication as we approach the midway point of spring term.
We were delighted to win the ‘Instrument Fund for Ensemble Development’ award at the Hackney Music Service Gala on Tuesday evening; this is a £2000 grant that we intend to put towards funding a Saz ensemble at Stokey! Our students also absolutely rocked the Empire Theatre during the Gala, performing a ‘We Will Rock You’ medley.
Huge shoutout to our fabulous students for their commitment and star quality! 🌟
