And that’s a wrap on the last exhibition at SET Woolwich!💜
‘The Queer Child’ marked the final chapter of our project space on the 4th floor of the West Building, rounding off four and a half incredible years of exhibitions, events, and community.
Curated by Cat Needs and Jessé Bürgel, this final show brought together 20 FLINTA artists (and a queer choir!) to explore the concept of the queer child and “growing sideways”, inspired by theorist Kathryn Bond Stockton’s work on subliminal queerness in childhood. Katheryn’s work explains how a queer child grows in non-linear paths towards non-conventional futures.
This space has held so many powerful, personal, political and joyful moments, and we want to extend a massive thank you to every artist, curator, friends and visitor who has been part of it over the past four years. Your energy and creativity made SET Woolwich what it was.
While this is the end of our time at SET Woolwich here, it’s not goodbye. Growing Sideways Projects will continue to build a community of FLINTA creatives, creating space and support for queer artists moving forward.
Thank you for growing with us 💫
