#igquiltfest2025day1 👋🏽 I’m Petra. That’s me on the right with my Canadian 🇨🇦 travel buddy @navanitas last October in #thevalleyofthekings in Egypt 🇪🇬 I started quilting in 2022, so I’m still finding my footing in this community 🖤 I’m a 17 year veteran of the San Francisco Fire Department where I worked as a firefighter/paramedic. I’m also a recovering ER nurse. I’m mostly retired but I still do 1 24hr on call shift a week as a Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner. I grew up in Germany 🇩🇪 I’m a childless dog lady, fired up liberal democrat, lover of tattoos and 90s hip hop. I’m a @hamiltonmusical #superfan and I’ve seen the production around 20 times in 4 countries. Last but not least, I’m an Alcohol Free Badass sober for 520 days 😇 I probably won’t post much more for #igquiltfest as I’m easily distracted by shiny things ✨
Lemme just say, I have thoroughly enjoyed both QC’s that I have attended, and plan on going to the ATL as well. While I do sincerely believe that all are welcome at this gathering, it is a cost-prohibitive event that excludes the majority of artists/quilters in the U.S. and it was more than a little disappointing when the organization moved to charge MEMBERS for the show pass. But y’all, despite all of the committees and “conversations” 🙄🙄🙄 can we just agree that @themqg has 0️⃣ fucks to give in regards to diversity/change of any kind, and just move on?! #kthnxbye 😈
No time to gather seashells on the seashore today. Luckily I’ve got plenty of sea glass on hand, but I digress. Back to Day 2 of the Serger Chronicles: I almost gave the unboxed serger away bc my fancy Janome has a decent overlock stitch, but now I’m glad I didn’t. Do I really need the serger? No, but you can’t beat the extra tidy finish you get with this weird machine, especially for garment sewing. Making the 1st of 2 panels needed for a @threadandsprout scrappy patchy top gave me plenty of opportunity to practice and I might be hooked 😊 thanks to everyone who cheered me on yesterday 🖤 block layout from @quiltinginthefog ’s #mosaic123 tutorial 🤩
For those of you who don’t know me well or haven’t known me for long, I post this ancient photo of me on top of a #baybridge anchorage as proof that I fear very little with the exception of the dentist and the contents of the 📦 in pic 2, which I’ve had for 4 years‼️why am I so skerred of this thing 🤷🏽♀️ it’s getting opened TODAY bc my Janome is in the shop (again) and I need to figure this 💩 out. Pray for me.
Moving apartments this week has forced me to organize and purge my fabric, scraps, and WIPs. There’s still a ton to do, but I’m already so much happier in my new space where I’ve been taking breaks to make these giant #drunkardspath blocks out of a Punct #layercake from @eisroughdraft 🤩 I’ll trim them and redo the layout tomorrow. Meanwhile, Darla has been busy road testing the best nap spots 😴 #ribboncandyquilt
I’m used to Cali prices, but the amount I paid for this very mediocre lunch (margarita slice, side salad and sparkling water) is ridiculous 😡 what would this cost where you live? California really doesn’t need an out of touch billionaire for governor right now, especially one cos playing as a dem.
Darla is not impressed that one of the #essexlinen remnants I scored @stonemountainfabric yesterday is exactly what I went there for to finish a project I’m working on.
Bay Area quilty friends! It’s common knowledge that The Sewing Machine shop in Walnut Creek is THE place to go for your sewing machine needs, but did you know that on Saturday, April 25 from 130-330p you can go there to have your quilty questions answered by my friend and local longarmer Jessica Kwan who did an amazing job on my #garnishquilt after I changed my mind about the panto 3 times 😬 and you can get her book there for $25! Who doesn’t love a bargain?! Take advantage of Jessica’s knowledge before you have to pay thousands of dollars to take a class from her at Asilomar 🖤
