🪡🌱 a wearable prayer / a fiber spell / a promise stitched in fabric 🐌 🪨
This is my latest Magic Vest - made as the example when teaching the most recent round of Crafting a Wearable Spell (aka Magic Vest Class).
Every time I teach this class I am struck by the inventiveness, imagination, curiosity, and openness of those who choose to participate. Everyone is given the same guidelines on what to create but each result is so beautifully and wonderfully different, just like the makers who stitched them slowly and intentionally.
Someone in this last class said that making their vest felt like an invitation to “wear their weird on the outside”. And I love that. May we all celebrate our weirdness and differences and beautiful uniqueness!

I met Kristin at a craft fair many years ago and fell in love with the incredible colors and rainbows she creates out of natural dyes. We have been internet and west coast market pals since then. Everything I’m wearing here was made with one of my own patterns so that’s cool!

Some things I made and saw and wore during my month off of Instagram:
- I made a pair of @the.ordinaryfolk Bobbie Overalls as a tester for the pattern and absolutely love them
- I went for a lot of walks
- finished my Puro Pullover pattern by @ruiyamamuro and wore it with some Dance Pants I made and dyed
- played with paint while binge watching How to Get to Heaven from Belfast
- I made a #taloversizedshirt that @cathryn_fowler_ painted and I love it!
- more ocean walks
- finished teaching Magic Vest Class and fell in love with all of my students
- celebrated the 6 year anniversary of the Earth Dress!
- moved my body a lot and finally got some answers and solutions for some pain and injuries I’ve been dealing with
- moss and mushrooms!
- roses are in bloom!
- wore this @jungmaven shirt for like a week straight
- Bobbie overalls again!

And I have a new tutorial/pattern for you! Make your own LANDSCAPE PORTAL ⛰️🏜️🌅
A Landscape Portal is like a landscape painting made out of fabric. It is made with various colors of fabric sewn together in curved colorblocking.
Once constructed, the Landscape Portal can then be sewn to the back of a jacket or shirt, onto a tote bag, or made into a wall hanging to have your own piece of Fiber Art! A soft reminder of a place you call home, the land you love, a sense of groundedness, and the interconnection of all things.
This tutorial includes:
- 3 Landscape Portal patterns
- PDF of written instructions for making your own Landscape Portal pattern, sewing the curved colorblocking, and attaching the Portal to another piece of fabric
- a video sew along
