Bay Area-based creative e bond aka @eisroughdraft finds joy in juxtaposition. Her infectious passion for process and printmakingās endless possibilities find her working in a place where ideas and conversations evolve and never come to an end. āMaking things with my hands is how I understand myself within the greater world, and itās a daily process,ā she says.

Hey friendsā-Hope you can use a little more color & texture in your life today because COUNTER is here!
.
COUNTER is the fifth fabric collection I have coming out with @freespiritfabrics and Iām so excited about this one because it celebrates a lot of the letterpress printing work I did on a two week residency last year at @hamiltonwoodtype in Wisconsin.
.
Hereās a first look at the fabric along with the inspiration statement. And as the weeks go on I canāt wait to also share with you some of the one-of-a-kind letterpress prints that inspired the patterns. xoeb
.
Inspiration statement below: āØThe collection COUNTER celebrates the space in and around letterforms: open or closed, narrow or wide. In typography, a counter is the actual area of a letter entirely or partially enclosed by a letterform or symbol. Imagine the āholeā in the middle of a beautiful O or the half-circle area at the top of a lowercase e. What is that area, other than a necessary part of the whole; not empty or negative, but instead infinite and integral to understanding?
.
The collection of letterpress prints that began the idea for COUNTER was made during a two-week residency at the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum in 2024. Hamilton houses 1.5 million pieces of wood type and is the only museum dedicated to the preservation, study, production, and printing of wood type. At Hamilton, I concentrated on printing some of the larger wooden letterforms in the collection (some more than 3 feet tall). It was such a dream to have the time and opportunity to print with their historic type collection to make art that celebrates the beauty of this strange, wonderful grouping of shapes we call an alphabet. COUNTER follows in the footsteps of my past collections GLYPHS, ROOT, and RAVEL, which experiment and examine aspects of the written word.
.
Counter hits stores in November but the buying time for stores is now. Check out FreeSpirit online if you want to order COUNTER. & link in bio

Hey yāall, today I sent out the May loveletter (aka newsletter) which was about my collaboration with @creativebug over the years and the launch of my new 15 day class, Drawing Disrupted. I thought I would share some of that here as well.
Hereās a lilā excerpt of what I wrote to my email friends about open spaces, uncertainty and trying to be remain surprised by my own work after so many years in the gameā¦
āMay is here and with it comes my new class, Drawing Disrupted ā taught in collaboration with my longtime pals over at Creativebug. The idea for this class has been on my mind for a long time, mainly because I needed to take the class much more than I needed to make it. After all, what did the master Toni Morrison say, āIf thereās a book that you want to read, but it hasnāt been written yet, then you must write it.ā A little history: I started art school at 14 and basically never left, which means this year will be 38 years of actively practicing, thinking, grappling with, and being a living artist in the world. When you spend almost 40 years in one lane of study you definitely gather up some skills, but you also start to deeply understand how those skills can become blocks & shortcuts to repetitive thinking. One thing I know about myself is I donāt want to have the answer to something before I begin the process. I desperately want to hold onto the ability to surprise myself in the work, and in this lifeā¦.ā
It goes on & on in the newsletter (itās the one place I donāt have to be brief & I like it, š) but swipe through the slidey things to see what else is available from me on Creativebug (links are always on my website workshop page, because the classes never expire).
If you are either a current Cbug subscriber and want to watch the class or not a member and want to purchase the single class, you can use this link: tidd.ly/4sG2mVS
Or if you want to become a Creativebug memberāitās a good time to joināthere are having a birthday sale right now, hereās a link from meeeee: tidd.ly/4dm27tK

𤯠Expand how you see, think, and create in e bond ās NEW class, DRAWING DISRUPTED.
āļø Through 15 inventive drawing prompts, e (@eisroughdraft ) focuses on the āhowā of making as much as the āwhat,ā gently disrupting familiar patterns and opening new pathways into your process. Youāll experiment with disappearing drawings, asemic writing, drawing with two hands, and unexpected materials. Instead of chasing a polished result, e invites you to ask: How can we look differently? How can we pay closer attention? Some experiments may surprise you, some may feel a little uncomfortable, but all are designed to get you out of your head and onto the page.
