appreciate you letting us nerd out about tax-deductible fundraising for artists 😤 Image description: 1. a frog-green background overlaid with bright, neon green text reading, “what the duck is fiscal sponsorship?” below, a small duckling waddles confidently into teal-blue pond water, surrounded by rocks and brush 2. a dark teal background overlaid with white text reading, “imagine a scientist working on a new, cutting-edge technology. when you picture her, she’s probably working in a research lab or at a university, right? despite all the shows and movies that suggest otherwise, scientists don’t work in their basements — they work within institutions, because it opens up funding avenues for their projects.” above, a looping video features Mickey Mouse surrounded by bubbling vials and contraptions in a basement laboratory. 3. a clay colored background is overlaid with text, “it might shock you to hear that similar, tax-exempt funding avenues exist for artists. if a project you’re working on is 1) artistic and 2) has a public benefit, you can use fiscal sponsorship to collect tax-deductible donations, apply for funding from corporations and foundations, and access nonprofit discounts.” below, a clip from the Simpsons features a smartly dressed character standing next to a fundraising bar, blinking with the number $10,700 and saying “folks, we just reached our goal of $10,700.” 4. an off-white background featuring an illustrated octopus using every arm to do something else, from art, to tax froms, to texting. it’s overlaid with the text, “who is it for? If you’re embroidering a dish towel as a gift for a friend, you (unfortunately) can't use fiscal sponsorship to get discounted needle and thread. But if you’re hosting printmaking workshops in the park, running an online poetry journal, or building an interactive light sculpture for a highway underpass, fiscal sponsorship is a way to acknowledge the public benefit of your work and access all the associated financial benefits 💸”

there's no secret code to sustaining a creative life, just small, steady creative choices within yourself and with others 🫧 image descriptions: 1. a light yellow background with an illustrated GIF of a pink pot with three green tendrils growing upwards out of it. a light rain comes down over the top. overlaid is the title text: “Making in Drips: A Creative Practice.” 2. a GIF background of a low lit library. overlaid is a dark terra cotta text box with white text: “When I serendipitously checked out a library book about sustaining a creative life, I was certain it was a cipher to my own journey of making. It was a moment when I was searching for a rudder. In several different personal essays, artists praised the subsidized housing and/or studio space they received. Others acknowledged the importance of their “day jobs” to creative risk-taking, which, ahem, turned out to be full-time teaching positions, replete with salary and benefits. As I turned the pages, I couldn’t help but think that the very ingredients they deemed essential for building their careers now seemed scarce.” 3. the background is reminiscent of Spongebob Squarepants. A dark blue ocean floor & light blue water have translucent flowers floating over. overlaid is a green text box with white text: “Diminished public support for the arts (I’m looking at you, National Endowment for the Arts) occurred for individual artists in the 1980s and 90s as a reaction to the culture wars, and more recent slashes due to DOGE cuts. As our society underfunds public arts and cultural initiatives, private support and partnerships are called upon to ease the gap, and enormous value continues to be placed on influencers, celebrities, and entertainment.”

our people are out there! sometimes we need a little nudge to find them 🫶 we went inside Fractured Atlas’ staff to ask how they built their own creative community. the full article is at the link in our bio! who's someone that's shaped your creative path? tag them below! 👇 image descriptions: 1. a red background with an abstract GIF of multicolored cubist blobs moving from right to left, spinning and floating up and down out of frame. below the GIF, title text reads “How to tap into Creative Community” underlined with white and yellow squiggles. 2. a GIF background of illustrated clouds. overlaid is a light blue text box that says “As an artist, the #1 piece of advice to make it through these times: lean on your creative community. But how does one actually build one? To get to the bottom of this, we inquired within our brilliant staff of artists, performers, and makers to share what they've learned about finding and building their creative communities over time. Here is a small slice of their reflections! For more of their advice and experience, read the full article on our blog (link in bio).” 3. A white background overlaid at the top with a black text box that says “Is there a moment, person, or place that first made you feel like part of a creative community?” Below is a speech bubble with this text inside: When I was auditioning for a Shakespeare company, I met an older Asian actor who immediately saw that I was just starting out. He gave me his contact information and encouraged me to connect with him in the future. In a leap of faith, I went to coffee with him, and we talked for hours about the different people and events that I should know about as a young Asian actor in the business. This mentor helped me connect with people that I still work with and have given me jobs and opportunities to this day! - Yz Jasa” To the left is an illustrated GIF of a pensive looking person’s head open like a box with a cloud of the universe with stars and planets coming out of it.

less celebrity worship ❌ more community care 🌈 image descriptions: 1. the background is yellow on the top half and green on the bottom half. on the top is a GIF of an illustrated dog wearing a hat in a room on fire, seemingly unconcerned with the blaze, a coffee mug in front of them. there are sketch-y drawings around the GIF. below is the text in green “The World is On Fire” and below, in the bottom half, yellow text reads “Stop Investing in Celebrities & Invest in Your Community Instead.” Below, are graphics of stars, leaves, a butterfly and a hand carrying a seedling. 2. a dark pink background with a GIF of Tyra Banks yelling “I was rooting for you, we were all rooting for you!” Overlaid is white text: “So much has happened in the beginning of 2026 alone, and it doesn’t seem like the time of unprecedented news is slowing down. There is a lot of active trauma our bodies are going through, and as a response, many people have begun isolating and turning to old shows, movies, and music to find comfort in the familiar. Some of these old pieces of media have recently been tainted by a celebrity involved who did horrendous things, or aligned outside of your personal morals and stances. You’re left trying to balance being able to shop for necessities and fun without crossing these picket lines, or giving more money to corporations that don’t align with your morals and are actually feeding the fire.” 3. a green background with a green title: “Your Community is Right There” and white text below that reads “These celebrities and corporations are not your only options for consuming content and buying things. You can turn to your friends, family, and local community instead. People who actually care about you and align with your values, morals, and political stances. This is a great step in practicing mutual aid, becoming more grounded in your community, feeding into your local economy to thrive, and being an active participant in changing the state of our world.” Below is a GIF of a man peeking over a white picket fence.

nobody taught us taxes and every April, it shows 😭 for the full article, a must-read from our friend Hannah at @sunlighttax , click the link in our bio! also, maybe drop a 🙋 below if a surprise tax bill has ever ruined your week/month/year? image descriptions: 1. a purple background, overlaid with white text reading “4 common tax day mishaps (and how to fix them).” below is an animated GIF from Robin Hood with the Tiger King and his advisor the snake excitedly admiring a sack of gold coins and saying “Taxes!” 2. a background of a collage of a popular meme of a woman looking confused as numbers and math equations flash before her eyes. overlaid is a white text box with black text that says “If you’re getting the feels as Tax Day approaches, you are probably human. There’s no tax education in this country (and how bananas is that?!?), so feeling confused or misunderstanding what’s required are common. Tax Day is the moment where it hits all at once. As we approach April 15, let’s clear up some common misconceptions about the tax deadline.” 3. a light green background with a GIF of three sock puppets dancing under falling dollars with a sparkle illustrated sticker to the right. yellow title text reads: “Misconception #1: You have to pay when you file your tax return” and below is black text that says: “Filing your tax return and making your tax payment are two separate acts. Your tax payment is due April 15, even if you file your tax return in late January. So filing the return early is a smart move. It gives you more time to gather together any cash that you need before the deadline, and plan for the payment that’s due on April 15. You can set your payment date for the deadline, April 15, but you can file your tax return well before then.”

hoping the magic the gathering purists don’t come for us on this one...we mixed media 🥵 image descriptions: 1. a GIF of a little cute devil boy with cute eyes and a black sweatshirt looking up at a big looming shadow. overlaid is purple text that reads “beating the emotional bosses of fundraising.” 2. a black background with a GIF of rainbow pixel confetti at the bottom in the middle of the page white text reads “The emotional side of fundraising is a lot like a video game. Not the fun kind where you're exploring a lush, bountiful world at your own pace — more like the kind where you round a corner and suddenly there are five seemingly unbeatable monsters standing between you and the distant, glowing treasure chest. At Fractured Atlas, we've walked alongside a LOT of artists as they tackle this emotional dungeon. Here's your field guide to the enemies you'll meet along the way.” 3. a green magic the gathering card named “the guilt spiral - level 1”. the header image is a GIF of a green pixellated monster with a club looking menacing. below that is a qualifier: “Difficulty: Sneaky”. Lastly is the description text: “"Why am I asking for money for my art when there's so much else going on?" The weight of the world can make your creative project feel frivolous. How to defeat it: Find a way to connect your project to something bigger than itself. Donate a portion of proceeds, offer your skills to a cause you care about, & use your work as a fundraising vehicle for others down the line. Art and urgency aren't enemies.” 4. a blue magic the gathering card named “Fear of Public Failure - Level 2”. the header image is a GIF of a man jumping off a cliff with a spear to slay a bloody, huge, moose hybrid creature. below that is a qualifier: “Difficulty: Loud”. Lastly is the description text: “Crowdfunding, specifically, puts your goal on display. If things start slow, it can feel like a very public verdict on whether your work deserves to exist at all. How to defeat it: Before you go live, recruit a couple of trusted friends to review your materials. You'll build a stronger campaign and feel less alone in the process. And remember: a slow start is not a final score.”
