Have you been to ACW’s Queer Lit Night yet?
We created this series back in the fall as a way for queer readers and writers in the Adirondacks to read, write, and connect. Last month we hosted the first QLN Open Mic at Hex and Hop and it was so lovely.
This Sunday, May 17, QLN is heading to Hotel Saranac (NOTE: the venue change just for this month!) for QUEER PROM. We're so excited to offer reading & writing in the Great Hall and dancing in the Ballroom. Prom-attire is welcome!
Participate on your own level. Our sticker system will still be in effect. When you arrive, you'll get to choose from three different stickers:
GREEN: I’m here mostly to chat with other readers and writers but might spend some time reading or writing
YELLOW: I’m here to chat a little and read or write a little
RED: I’m here to focus on my reading and writing

The residency is located at a lodge on Twitchell Lake in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains and is generously provided by the estate of Anne LaBastille, who wrote books capturing challenges of the region, including Woodswoman and Beyond Black Bear Lake from her cabin on Twitchell Lake. During the residency, writers will paddle to the site of her property and explore the lake with locals.
Application Deadline: Monday, May 18, 2026
Residency Dates: September 20 – October 4, 2026
Notification: July 2026
Cost: $30 application fee. There is no cost to attend the residency.

Don’t miss the Howl Story Slam at Upper Jay Art Center this Thursday, May 7!
The theme is “What’s My Line?” – stories of lines crossed, being on the right or wrong side, lifelines, standing in line, line in the sand, lines in a performance, or any kind of line.
So, what’s your Line? Sign up and take the stage to tell a true story in under 5 minutes. Judges (2-3 audience members) score the stories, and at the end of the night, a winner is announced. All winners are invited to our annual Grand Slam at the end of the year.
The Howl Story Slam team is a partnership between Adirondack Center for Writing and North Country Public Radio, two organizations that believe in the power of stories.
