A forest is only as vibrant as the people who protect it.Forest Post, was born out of a desire to bridge the gap between these forest-dependent communities and the world outside. Don't we all have our favourite pickles for different cuisines and even different sesaons?! Bilimbi or Irumban Puli pickle has a tang that pairs well with simple dals and curries in a south Indian meal. Found commonly in homestead gardens, its fruits are rich in Vit C, iron and other nutrients, and supports immunity and gut health. We love the way some of you fall in love with these basic pickle recipes from the Malayar women at Forest Post. @skanila @divya.khanna1 @yaadhumcommunity #Bilimbi #WildFoods #GutHealth #TraditionalWisdom #IndigenousCuisine

Foraged by Chef Goku (@chefgokuny ) was a five-course experience with the Malayar women that brought their way of cooking to life; on the plate and at the table. Quietly and honestly. Grateful to everyone who showed up, sat with us and shared that evening. We’re coming up with another exciting culinary experience in May. Stay tuned for more details! #TribalCuisine #MalayarTribe #Kerala #Athirapally #Vazhachal

Shatavari murabba is our signature product perfected over the years. The labour of love that goes in, is quite something -- from the time it is dug out from the earth to the final curing. The Karikkadav Collective always had a sense of ownership with the preparation. Today Kotha chettan in remote Edamalayar has mastered it so well that everyone looks up to the season's best batches he sends across... @thelocavore.in @chefgokuny @radhikakidao @meeraforest @_dannyy______ #Shatavari #HoneyedShatavari #TraditionalRecipe #CommunityGrown #ForestFood Do you wanna know how we found inspiration for this unusual recipe? In our search for the Kuzhal, the wind instrument central to Kadar song and ritual, it was Chandrika chechi who gently guided us to Vijayan chettan in Malakkapara. A man of few words and quiet grace, he asked his daughter to bring out his Kuzhal. We sat beneath a towering wild jack tree as he carefully fashioned a fresh mouthpiece using tender fronds from the fish tail palm, drawn from a small, well-worn wooden box he carried with him. He told us of how he learnt to craft and play the instrument from his father; of the different tunes that belong to different occasions, each with its own purpose, its own memory. The whole experience felt like a gift. Then we noticed another layer of beauty was unfolding softly on our friend Meenaxi’s @ippothiri_works notepad... watercolour strokes of Vijayan chettan and his Kuzhal, as if the music had found another form of expression. @sonya.sankaran @arpo.in @ranjit.panicker @tamarindterrace @mann.summer.rain @stayrainforest #IndigenousMusic #KadarCulture #WindInstrument #TraditionalKnowledge #Kuzhal

Across India, bees come in different shapes, sizes (and swarms): wild populations of native bees like stingless, leafcutter, carpenters, and masons, as well as the non-native European honey bee. However, more than 40 percent of honey bees in the country have disappeared during the last two decades. This is largely due to climate stressors like erratic rainfall and hotter-than-ever-before summers, as well as environmental degradation. Despite this loss, India is now the second-largest exporter of honey globally after China, but at what cost? Read the full story by Mukta Patil (@muktavpatil ) on @TheLocavore.in website to find out—link in bio 🐝 This story features our #TLpartner producers @Maati_cha @TenaciousBeehive @ForestPost.in and @MoonshineHoneyProject .
