“Donald Judd’s Fetish” part of @jonald.dudd annual exhibit during #NYDesignWeek🚨 Open now at 152 Lexington Ave NYC 🚨 • • • Donald Judd’s Fetish 2019 powder coated steel 16” x 16” x 18” Inspired after reading Anne Chave’s critical writings about artists like Donald Judd, Dan Flavin, and others within the minimalist movement. Chave describes the artists as a brute force physically seizing over the gallery space. They would often do so in a language of heavy industrialized materials while being aloof from the manufacturing process. The collection’s purpose is to expose masculinity by highlighting the rhetorics of power used by white male artists during the 1960s.

📸 DOCUMENTACIÓN: A Long Shot Without Relief: Everyone wants to be desired, no one wants to desire. Performance de Ines Borovac (@lochnesi ) Una escena larga y sin alivio: Todos quieren ser deseados, nadie quiere desear. Escenificada entre la sedación y el exceso, este performance explora la lucha de los cuerpos por expresar emociones, conflicto y deseo dentro de una sociedad altamente alienada de su corporalidad y optimizada hacia la producción de capital. […] Esta presión se alinea con normas algorítmicas y estéticas que favorecen superficies estáticas y controladas por encima de una corporalidad expresiva y desordenada. Esto no es un auto-cuidado neutral; es una disciplina y represión emocional culturalmente condicionada que borra el afecto del rostro y del cuerpo. Para contrastar la sedación de la expresión, el performance se inspira en la expresividad melodramática de las telenovelas. 🌐 Staged between sedation and excess, the performance explores a struggle of bodies to express emotions, conflict and desire in a highly disembodied and optimised society. […] This pressure aligns with algorithmic and aesthetic norms that favor static, controlled surfaces over expressive, messy embodiment. This is not neutral self-care; it is culturally conditioned emotional discipline that erases affect from the face and body. In order to contrast the sedation of expression, the performance utilises the melodramatic expression of telenovelas. Externally an aperture is cut into the plywood sheeting over the windows. A hint that the building is in motion. A circle to mirror the existing porthole window in the attic storey. From the bridge inside this new aperture allows a view back over the canal that once brought grain and other goods to and from the building. Collab @for.opacity At @dehoop.space

Luck is Blind: an intervention in the former distillery building ‘De Hoop.’ This monumental building awaits renovation, having faced decades of neglect. It has spent time as an asbestos factory and a wood workshop, amongst other things. It has been much altered as a result. The building is in a state of flux, and of this we took advantage; used the opportunity to open the building up. We stripped away everything of no heritage value: defunct cabling and pipework, poorly constructed apartment walls, removed all floorboards to inspect for rot. What was left was an empty shell. The intervention becomes a bridge with a dual function. An access platform for public viewing, plus a structural member pinning together the existing floor joists, now that the structural floorboards are (temporarily) gone. On the invitation of @nedkaar ’s and the collective’s prompt “essential interest to Dutch culture,” I reflected on my own pathway to residency in the Netherlands — not through an artist or cultural visa, but via a partner visa. My presence here is formally justified not by my work, but by my relationship. To translate this into form, I searched my studio for objects that existed in pairs: two ceramic sculptures, the two mats they were crafted after, two scrap pieces of wood, and two light tubes. I assembled these mirrored elements into a pair of lamps… or rather lovers, facing one another, made from shared fragments of material and memory. The work considers the quiet architectures of support —emotional, relational, and material— that often underpin creative lives but remain invisible to official definitions of “cultural contribution.” It is also a meditation on duality, co-dependence, and the intimacy embedded in migration stories that are often reduced to paperwork.

Su enfoque del cuero integra lo utilitario con lo artístico. Esta dualidad se refleja en sus obras CONSTRUIR EL NIDO y TACHINASQUE. Estas esculturas táctiles expresan su fascinación con ciclos naturales, como la simbiosis entre termitas arbóreas en los nidos conocidos como Tachinasque. Estos nidos, que eran una vista común en su hogar costero, ahora informan su exploración artística de la coexistencia, la transformación y el abandono. En su trabajo, el cuero se convierte en un sitio de complejidad, un material que contiene memoria, reinvención y contradicción.
