EXHIBITION ANNOUNCEMENT ā€˜The Haunted House Slug’ by Marie Sahy @mariesahy and Flo Wright @flo_wrightsart šŸ“¢ šŸ—“ļø 14 February - 12 April 2026 Opening Saturday 14 February 2-4pm at VOLT Free, all welcome The Haunted House Slug brings together Marie and Flo’s practices through their shared interests in hauntings, domestic space and fictional histories. Working with installation, painting, comics and found objects from around Eastbourne, both artists play with humour, disorientation and historical slippages. Shown together at VOLT, Flo’s domestic interiors and Marie’s pastoral scenes will be stages for their objects and characters to form new worlds. Through paintings, ceramics and found objects, Marie introduces the character of the House Slug. She is a figure trespassing into scenes of Victorian pastoral idyll and idealised femininity often found on ceramic dinnerware. The House Slug embodies social and physical pressures placed on women in domestic, rural and working environments. We see her repeatedly in these idealised scenes: slumped, exhausted, crumpled; supine, dancing, ecstatic. She embodies a sense of release and euphoria that can emerge from a state of depression and when things no longer seem to hold their meaning. Flo works with objects collected from around Eastbourne combined with painting, photography and installation to construct fictional histories. Through ideas of haunting and personal mythology, objects are re-situated within domestic and ā€˜natural’ environments built in the gallery. Water is a recurring presence in these scenes, carrying its own narratives and merging with the lives of the collected materials. A cabinet holding different objects, trinkets and tchotchkes will be in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition. Visitors are encouraged to rifle through these, to take away any that catch their attention and re-donate them to Devonshire Ward’s charity shops. šŸ‘€ Stay tuned for the public programme, including Book Clubs, workshops, artist talks and more! #mariesahy #flowright #eastbourne #devonshirecollective #community

Throwback šŸ’« A workshop I ran back in May 2024. ā€˜Nourishing your creative practice’ It came about during my time on the Associate artist program facilitated by the amazing @dana.brass šŸ’™ I had the best time being a part of the 2023-2024 cohort: @z_kai_x @imogensart1999 @gildadasflores (Check them out they are the best) I wanted to focus on developing a space for creatives to come together and examine the way objects and artworks can dialogue in a space. Creating an environment that could be comfortable to do so. To give context I spoke through some of the artists whose works and ideas had inspired my thought process. We also made time to have some food and discuss different ideas ā˜ŗļø I hope to do more of this in the future. Big thank you to @pollewright and again @dana.brass for the never ending support and generosity šŸ’ššŸŒ¼šŸ’š & thankyou to the wonderful people that came along and joined in. I had the best time x

We are open tomorrow! 12-4pm for Taking Time! Pictured here is a detail image of @flo_wrightsart ā€˜Pickles and Transfers’ (2025) 🩵 Taking Time, a group exhibition presenting nine artists in dialogue with one another across the themes of language, memory, community, and the built environment, responding to Bexhill as a site of creative practice, reflection, communal thinking and connection. Taking Time is a physical manifestation of each artist’s time spent in Bexhill during Beeching Road Studios’ development based programmes. Taking time is related to a sense of home, a place you can actually take that time in, time you need to know both yourself and your surroundings. The works and their sentiments reflect a sense of community and responsibility towards your neighbours, and understanding space as a place of being and collaboration. Taking Time includes 9 artists based @beechingroadstudios Vanessa Farinha, Sarah Gomes Harris, Alastair Laas, Richard Lockett, Flo Wright, Katalina Caliendo, RJ Fernandez, Joan Glasgow Ashton, Tanvi Kant. The show runs from 22.02.25 - 15.03.25! @vanessafarinha_art @biscuitplatform @laas_artist @_richardlockett @flo_wrightsart @katalina_caliendo_ @rj.fernandezis @joanglasgow_art @tanvikant ā¤ļø This exhibition has been supported by essential funds from @rother_district_council @aceagrams @delawarr @talentaccelerator_ and has been co-developed with @common.clay & @workingclasscreativesdatabase šŸ“ø @phoebewingrove
