Raku Sundays at Common Clay!
2nd, 9th & 23rd August 2026 Join us this August to explore Raku — a fast, expressive firing process where red-hot pots are transformed through flame, smoke, and rapid cooling, creating rich, unpredictable surfaces. Led by artist @katalina_caliendo_ these sessions introduce both traditional Raku and alternative techniques, including Obvara, horsehair, feathers, and a range of combustibles and glazes. Dates & times:
2 Aug (11–1.30) — Making Session
9, 23 Aug (10–4) — Glazing and firing Bring your own bisque-fired pots, use pieces made on 2 Aug, or choose from the studio. Small group (max 6) with plenty of guidance throughout. All materials, firing, glazes and lunch included.
Outdoor, weather dependent. All levels welcome #raku #eastsussexceramics #ceramicscourses #ceramics #commonclaycommunity

〰️Weekend Teapot Making Course 〰️ Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th July 2026 10am–4pm This two-day course is designed for intermediate potters who are confident with the basics of wheel throwing and ready to take on more complex forms. You should be able to centre clay and comfortably throw at least 600g. Working in a small, supportive group, you’ll have your own wheel for the duration of the course, with plenty of opportunity for focused practice and individual guidance throughout. By the end of the course, you will have created your own teapot, along with any additional components or related forms. Your work will be glazed and fired for you in a glaze of your choice, or you are welcome to book a drop-in session at the studio to glaze it yourself. Finished pieces will be ready to collect approximately 6 weeks later (or can be posted by arrangement). Each day includes a vegetarian lunch, as well as tea and coffee, so you can settle in, focus on making, and enjoy the process at a relaxed pace.
