SCURA.
@scura.magazine About halfway through our call with New York City-based designer
@shwntng , he turns his laptop to the window, showing lower Manhattan in sharp focus against a clear spring sky. Then another turn, this time to a perfect sightline of Midtown. Itâs a view that, understandably, still holds his attention, three years in.
Itâs also shaped the home from the outset. âWhat do we want to be doing in front of the view?â he asks. The answer was eating, so the dining table takes centre stage. From there, the rest of the space fell into place. The living area is almost entirely given over to his and his partnerâs creative practices â Lili, a food artist
@likelysong â where chairs, lamps and objects trace a personal interest in the history of design, from Joe Colombo and Vico Magistretti to Gaetano Pesce and a growing circle of contemporaries.
Tangâs own work spans furniture, exhibitions and collaborative projects across the city and beyond, from his studio
@tangthousand to the gallery
@oneofone.works and his role at Philip Johnsonâs
@wolfhouse upstate. Each one is driven by a desire to work with what feels current â âwith people, ideas and moments that feel specific to today,â as he puts it.
