STORE Projects

We are going to be spotlighting some of the inspiring projects being developed over at STORE Rotterdam @storerotterdam ! Their Design Clubs bring together young people aged 15–20 for free, hands-on workshops led by professional designers. Participants explore the full journey from concept to creation while working with interesting materials and innovative techniques. Over the last year, STORE Rotterdam has been working on some exciting Store Design Clubs. Together with Alei Verspoor @aleiverspoor at @pack_bags , participants created modular bags designed for adaptability and personalisation. Moreover, with Audrey Large @audreylrg , students explored 3D modelling and VR drawing, translating digital designs into marble runs. Jonas Lutz @joonas_lutz guided the making of sculptural candleholders using reclaimed wood, while Rinke Joosten @studiorinkejoosten led the Textured Objects club, from ceramic mold-making to blown glass vases. Participants learnt calligraphy and designed and screen-printed a scarf under Yasmine van Maasakker @a.la.maravilla . Student work has been presented in exhibitions including the Rotterdam Design Biennale and of course, the STORE STORE Rotterdam shop. Handles by James Shaw @jamesmshaw are available in both our shops! All handles are made entirely from recycled HDPE plastic extruded by hand in London. James Shaw is a designer and a maker exploring the material landscape in a hands-on way. His work aims to interrogate the material, systemic and formal approaches to the creation of objects. Wax Lamps was a four-day, hands-on workshop this April, led by French designers Baguette Studio @baguettestudio_ . Over the course of the week, 15 state school students aged 14–18, explored the process of designing and making a lamp from scratch using natural wax. Students designed and built their own forms, before making vacuum formed moulds. The students used the moulds to form natural wax lamp shades using rotational moulding. The workshop was designed to guide students through every stage of making a design object, from design thinking to fabrication. A closer look at What The Hand Holds, our free After School Club from last Spring for local state school students, led by ceramicist Gabriella Gormley @gabriellagormley Students explored the deconstruction of the handle, designing and crafting their own ceramic fixtures for FLAWK’s @flawk__ Runda House and future buildings. Working from the building’s materials and concepts, they developed prototypes that were 3D scanned and printed, before producing plaster moulds and press-moulding clay into a series of playful handles. The programme brought together 15 state school students in collaboration with FLAWK, with the final pieces now featured in Runda House. Last Spring, we ran What The Hand Holds, a free After School Club for local state school students, guided by ceramicist Gabriella Gormley @gabriellagormley . Together, the students explored the deconstruction of the handle, designing and crafting their own unique set of ceramic fixtures for FLAWK’s @flawk_ Runda House and future buildings. The students used materials and conceptual elements from the building to design and make prototypes, which were then 3D scanned and printed. Students created plaster moulds from the prints before press moulding with clay to make a series of playful handles. What The Hand Holds was an opportunity for 15 state school students. These workshops were in collaboration with FLAWK and the final handles are now featured in Runda House. The Mänty Collection by Stine Keinicke @stinekeinicke_studio The Mänty Collection is a ceramic tableware series developed from discarded trees. The ceramic pieces are made from split wood. During the design process wood and axe are the only tools used to create shapes for porcelain slip cast. The grain of the wood dictates where the wood will split and therefore leaves nature partly in control of the design. The Mänty cups and mugs have a satisfying tactile imprint of the split wood grain and is perfect for a cup of coffee or tea. Made in porcelain in the UK, each mug and cup is unique. Stine is a Danish product designer based in London. Last summer, the STORE Young Trustees @storeyoungtrustees commissioned a series of free design workshops for local state school students and STORE alumni. The outcomes from the workshops were showcased at the annual Graduate Feast in August 2025. Botanical Materials was a one-day workshop in July run by artist and maker @studioanoushkacole . Students created biomaterials and natural dyes with organic waste. The outcomes became the tablecloth for the Graduate Feast. Ceramic Journeys was a two-day workshop in July guided by ceramicist @maisonssommet and makers @craftcraftcraftcraftcraft . Students designed and made extruded ceramic tableware using metal dies resembling journeys they had taken in Hackney Wick. The final vases were displayed at the Graduate Feast 2025 and are now available to purchase in both our Camden and Hackney stores as well as online. STORE STORE Festive Gift Guide 2025! Cardboard Ceramics by After School Club Students newly available in-store. Last month, we ran a free After School Club for local state school students to produce Cardboard Ceramics. Guided by ceramicist Ray Gonzalez Brown @ray.gonzalez.brown , students designed and made tableware by casting clay in cardboard molds. Waste cardboard was collected from the local shops in Coal Drops Yard to explore the unique lost cardboard process developed by Ray. This After School Club was for 15 students aged 15-18. The outcomes from the workshop are now available to buy in-store!
