Like a lot of us, my older brother wanted to get the bike he wanted growing up. A real steel road bike with rim brakes and quick handling.
I don't currently own a bicycle with a front derailleur, or rim brakes, or tires smaller than 40c, but I was excited to build him what he was excited about.
And I added some stuff he probably doesn't care about much (yet) too.
This is probably the first bike I can look at and not just be frustrated with things I wish I had done better. There were a lot of mistakes. I fixed many of them and learned from the rest.
The tubeset is an Oversize
@reneherse one with a lugged bottom bracket. You can feel the tubing is GREAT - light and strong. I did not become a fan of lug work, so I think that'll be it for a while.
He requested a cherry blossom paint job, which I was initially excited to try. When the fabrication was almost done, I admitted it was probably a recipe for disaster. Instead we got it powdercoated and
@bikecrud and I found some really nice fabric. I built a little rack, and he made a bunch of really really nice matching bags I hope he admits they are as good as I say they are.
@mitchiedagger was kind as always when I told him I was over the downtube lettering he’d made for me a couple years ago. He did exactly what I asked for, I just changed my mind over time. It took him less than a week to get me something even better than what I described, and less than an hour when on NEW YEAR'S EVE I asked him if he could please send me some letters for the headtube logo because I forgot and was organizing a show in the morning. Legend.
Many thanks for
@nickytony for putting everything together. It took me several decades to realize I like working on bikes, just not the mechanic part. Especially after spending a lot of time after building the frame.
@dirtsloth takes photos in a way that reminds me that while we all take photos, some people ARE REALLY TAKING PHOTOS. Everything you do is awesome - thank you.
Oh ya,
@microshiftofficial can we please work out some sort of partnership? I put your stuff on everything.
That's it. The next one is in the jig already.
