‘Dance of the Nine Opals’ (1942) is one of my favourite paintings…I first saw it in the flesh when we were able to borrow it for Hummadruz at the Newlyn Art Gallery… I m now convinced that it was inspired by the Merry Maidens, rather than any other stone circle in Cornwall, because the green bars that the stones (opals) appear to rest on correspond to the footpath from the gate next to the main road. This footpath, which as the grass is flattened becomes visible at certain times of the year, traverses the stones and leads to a stile at the top of the field. This combination of gate/hedge/footpath is unique to the Merry Maidens… #ithellcolquhoun #merrymaidens @fieldnotesonart @blair_in_a_field

Thank you to everyone who came to the @tenderacts silent disco @fxunilibrary on Wednesday last week 🎧 🎶 We hope you enjoyed tuning into the unnoticed rhythms that shape the everyday soundscape of @uniexecornwall Penryn campus. The tracks were created collaboratively by some of the @thesufalexe societies and artists @naomifrears @liam.jolly and @georgiagendall with the help of Stuart Blackmore. We're hoping to be able to add some of the tracks to the commissions project page so watch this space! 🎊 Open call for emerging visual artists! 🎊 We are excited to be running three mentoring groups for new creatives at the beginning of their careers through the @newcreativescornwall project – this open call is for visual artists. Running from October 2024 to February 2025, this mentoring opportunity will support and guide those at the beginning of establishing a professional visual art practice in developing their practice and career. Five selected artists will receive one-to-one and group sessions led by @fieldnotesonart , tailored to the group of artists selected. The mentoring programme is fully funded and there is no cost for the selected mentees to be part of the programme. Travel costs to attend any in-person meet-ups will also be covered and mentees will receive a free 1-year membership with Creative Kernow Associates.
