"Film can be a particularly powerful conduit for telling the story of research."
Last night was the 2021 Research in Film Awards. Congratulations to @alex_widdowson@suzieloves432 #OsbertParker #DheerajAkolkar @birtevogel and their collaborators on five films that moved and inspired our judges. Swipe to see clips from each film.
The Research in Film Awards celebrates the best in academic filmmaking. Since 2015, it has inspired researchers across the UK to think more deeply about how they share their work with the wider world. Previous RIFA winners have gone on to win BAFTAs and other awards, been screened at film festivals, or gone on to secure funding and further achievements. Search #RIFA2021 for more on the competition and this year's shortlist!
This week is London Fashion Week, where hundreds of the world’s top designers will showcase their latest creations to the world. These designs will soon trickle down onto the high street. Once there, they will be swept up by fashion conscious Brits eager to wear the latest trends. However fast forward a year, and much of these garments will end up in landfill. So how do we make fashion sustainable while recognising that what we wear is often fundamentally linked to our self identity?
Podcast Emissions Impossible attemps to answer that question, with contributions from @elvisandkresse@bfttpartnership and @uoldesign . Find it wherever you listen to podcasts.

Taking care of historical archives comes with a lot of responsibility. But it's not just about preserving things for future generations - it's also about making history accessible to people in the here and now.
Meet Gary Brannan. As Keeper of Archives and Special Collections at the Borthwick Institute for Archives at the @uniofyork , he's part of a team caring for a vast collection of historical material dating back as far as the 11th century. Gary helps ensure anyone can access historic records - whether that's helping a professor on the other side of the world get online access to a document, or helping someone find out about their family history.
"There's nothing nicer when you find that something that you've brought in or cared for or provided access to, or your team has provided access to has informed major works," says Gary. "I think that's brilliant."

Check out this amazing new science-art exhibition opening this September at @GlasgowScienceCentre .
Polar Zero is an immersive new exhibition that aims to give us a new understanding of the polar regions through stories hidden in the ice. It features new work from renowned artist and sculptor @WayneBinitie , known for his climate change-inspired work at the @VAMuseum and @ArupGroup . The exhibition draws on the @BritishAntarcticSurvey ’s ice core laboratory: one of the key pieces is an original glass sculpture containing air dating from the dawn of the industrial revolution, extracted from an ice core.
You’ll be able to see it at the Glasgow Science Centre in September, where it will be on display during the UN #COP26 Climate Conference, as well as accessing many elements of the exhibition online. More details coming soon!
Search “Polar Zero Glasgow" to find out more.
