Join us for a preview of our new collaborative project COUNTER. ‘Art is a state of encounter’ - Nicholas Bourriaud Counter is a project propelled by its movability—an insistence that escape is possible. Gathering outside of the gallery where people already are, forming temporary constellations that allow new intimacies to emerge in familiarity and friendship. The aesthetic encounter offers a vantage point to imagine alternatives to hegemonic frameworks that have been known to be sexist, racist, anti-immigrant, and anti-poor. Counter is a proposition towards creativity, curiosity, wonder, fascination, hospitality, hope, and openness. Opening this Friday 20 March, 6-8pm. fab Workshop and Studio Loading Bay (back entrance) 12 Little Rundle St, Kent Town SA 5067 This project has been supported through our @fab_workshop x @adlfringe studio residency

Congrats to Aidan Hughes & Gemma Slattery, our fab @helpmannacademy studio residents for 2025/26 ⭐️⭐️ Gemma and Aidan have been total sweetie bums to have around for the past year and have embraced metal in such varied ways. They delivered several exhibition outcomes throughout the year and experimented with clay, painting, digital drawing, video and metal working processes. See their work currently showing at The Gallery at St. Peters Town Hall, showing alongside Marlize de Klerk in ‘Holding / Carrying’. March 6 - 11 April @aidanhughes.online @gemma_wemma @cityofnpsp

Happy end of year and festive season to all! From the crew at fab and @washdog.studio It’s been a big second year in the studios, full of shifts, collaborations and projects. Thanks to our friends, family, residents and supporters. We'll be kicking off the year in January with the next Washdog guest residency including workshops and artist talks, and then Fringe exhibitions from (at least) five of our studio artists. It's shaping up to be a spicy summer. Fringe residents Alice McCool and Yusuf Ali Hayat travelled to Bus Projects, taking part in the group exhibition ‘Friend/free (to love)’ curated by Alice McCool and Ena Grozdanić. 10.9.25 - 18.10.25 ‘‘Friend/free (to love)’ brings together eight artistic comrades to ask: how do works created by friends speak to one another? Can friendship trouble the connection between art and property? Can friends redefine and renegotiate conventions of aesthetic autonomy through the process of reciprocal creative labour?’ Artists: Yusuf Ali Hayat and Dominic Guerrera, Astrid Lorange and Andrew Brooks (Snack Syndicate), Sanja Grozdanić and Jelena Luise, and Hen Vaughan and Georgia Oatley. Helpmann resident Aidan Hughes exhibited Skill Tree, 2025, as part of the group show ‘INFO MYTH’ at FUTUREJUICE 16.11.25 - 13.12.2025 Aidan used CAD software to design and draw the components of this work, which were laser-cut from 6 mm stainless steel to create a monumental mantle scattered with iconic digital references. In the studio, he developed a finishing technique using a flap disc, giving the stainless steel a soft, dreamy appearance.
