What if there was a dedicated @basinbikepath for all of Joshua Tree (aka the Morongo Basin)? Imagine a basin-wide loop, starting in Yucca Valley > Joshua Tree > Twentynine Palms, even going through @joshuatreenps , and eventually ending in downtown JT @jt_saloon for a much deserved celebratory meal 🚵🏜️🍔🍻 As a desert bicyclist, this has been a dream of mine for quite some time. Unfortunately however, this effort is long overdue and generally bicycling is quite dangerous out here. In just the past few weeks, there have been two tragic bicycle-related deaths in the Morongo Basin. One in 29 on August 25th, and one just down the street from me in Yucca on September 5th. Being a resident of Yucca, I decided to attend the @townofyuccavalley Town Council meeting, this past Tuesday September 16 2025, and make public comment on this. Next up is @cityof29palms and eventually @sbcounty . This video is an attempt to workshop this idea and highlight the issue with the community, near and far. Please feel free to spread the word and let me know what you think! thx 🤠

The flames of change 🏚️❤️‍🔥 Now, more than ever, it is clear that we have to change the way we build, and especially the materials we use. My heart goes out to everyone affected by the Los Angeles wildfires happening right now. I can't imagine losing a home and being displaced from my community. This home, I've been calling "Casa Fuego", in Yucca Valley, CA, burned long before I showed up. It has been my intention to rebuild it using non-flammable adobe bricks (mud), making it fire proof with natural materials, thus demonstrating the importance of building resiliently and sustainably. Yesterday we started intentionally deconstructing the structure (trying to salvage what we can) in order to then rebuild anew. I wanted to get some footage of the building prior to demolition and this is a small snippet of that, from just before the new year. Special thanks to @lore_tering for coming out and capturing the structure and story. Los Angeles will soon be rebuilding homes at an unprecedented scale. With fire concerns worsening everywhere into the future, and home insurers dropping policies more and more, something has to give with the way we approach building, especially housing. For the latest updates on Casa Fuego follow @project.nosotros

I thought you liked danger.. Real talk, what pushed me into action for the @basinbikepath was seeing two bicycle-related deaths happen in the same week last fall. People walking and biking in the basin are vulnerable, and I think about that every time I ride. It’s one of the main reasons I’m so passionate about this project. A basin-wide path could make the hi-desert safer, more connected, and more accessible for everyone. . . . #apex #netflix #joshuatree #yuccavalley #29palms

𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞: one small step towards world peace..?! Hear me out.. . . . I used to constantly read the news & we all know how that goes; negativity, conflict, & overwhelm. Often I would feel anxious & powerless, like there was nothing I could ever do. I started paying attention to that pattern & to where my energy was going - realizing what I focus on tends to shape my experience. So I shifted to what I can impact: my community. I started following only local news (shoutout @z1077fm.joshuatree ), volunteering, & attending town meetings. My pessimism softened into optimism & life felt more abundant. . . . This isn’t a perfect solution. I sometimes wonder if I’m just out here in the desert with my head in the sand, ignoring the rest of the world.. Besides, optimism has a shadow too - things like toxic positivity & spiritual bypassing.. Where is the 𝓫𝓪𝓵𝓪𝓷𝓬𝓮? ☯️ I believe it’s important to be grounded & stay aware of the darkness - 𝗮𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 - pulling you away from what matters most: yourself, your people, your home, your community, your truth & purpose. Because we can’t have the light without the dark 🖤 Nothing grows without struggle 🌱 The phoenix can’t rise without burning 🐦‍🔥 No metamorphosis without breaking the chrysalis 🦋 It’s a beautifully tragic paradox - one I’m still learning to live with ❤️‍🔥 . . . I’ve often heard that 𝓌𝑜𝓇𝓁𝒹 𝓅𝑒𝒶𝒸𝑒 𝓈𝓉𝒶𝓇𝓉𝓈 𝒶𝓉 𝒽𝑜𝓂𝑒.. What if we focused more on what we can directly impact: ourselves & our communities? Maybe that can ripple outwards..? It’s not as simple as it sounds. There are urgent issues happening NOW, that need immediate attention, & people on the front lines everywhere. But, we also need people fixing the patterns of the broken systems. . . . I know this is a privileged perspective in some ways, but it’s where I’m at.. So, I’m excited to explore what’s possible at the local level. If this resonates with you, get involved too. Run for something. Show up. Start small. We can make a difference 🙏

I’m excited to be back at @joshuatreemusicfestival offering another Yerba Maté Communitea! 🧉💫 Lately I’ve been getting curious about maté fusions like tereré (cold brew), so maybe I’ll have some by then.. Hope to see you there to chat and try! 🍵✨ Saturday, May 16th 6-9pm Lakeside @ Astro Mojo Dojo Communitea is an invitation to slow down, sit together, and explore what community can look like when people are allowed to show up as they are. Eric guides the social ritual of sharing yerba maté, a deeply rooted tradition in South America and an expression of his Argentine heritage. In this setting, a maté circle is formed and conversation naturally unfolds. In Spanish, this act is often called “una charla”, or “a chat”, making maté the perfect pairing with this communitea offering. A desert local and community builder, Eric has a passion for connecting people and creating spaces for authentic expression. This gathering is open to anyone curious about connection, place, and what it means to live in community. Pull up a cushion, a warm tea cup is waiting! N O S O T R O S I grew up 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴, but I was never very 𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭. Catholic school. 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡 every week. And yet, it never really clicked for me. So I leaned into what I could measure & experience - science, engineering, tech. Empiricism. Atheism. And then, 7 years ago, I came to the desert - seeking something.. more. The desert called me in and I was curious, though it wasn’t without its tests. 🌬️🤠 Over the years, the seeking led to confusion and clarity, struggle and growth, isolation and community, surrendering and acting, dreaming and building. It’s been a journey - one I could have never imagined. ❤️‍🔥☯️ Then I started to pay attention. The “synchronicities”, I would learn they were called. The patterns. The feeling that something bigger than me was unfolding. 🏜️✨ I began to believe in this place and this process. … 5 years ago, after looking at 100+ houses, I closed on my very first home. It just so happened to be across the street from a church. 🏜️✨ Looking back to when I was growing up, what I really valued at 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡 wasn’t the doctrine - it was the people. The friends and families I’m still connected to decades later. It was the 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆. Because when you strip everything else away, churches are extraordinary at building sustained, multi-generational 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 (sometimes too much so..). … Somewhere along this desert journey, spirituality and community started to emerge and converge, leading me, unexpectedly, back to 𝗰𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵.. 💫 The culmination of all the seeking, synchronicities, dreaming, manifesting, or however you want to explain it, I’m excited to finally share what’s been taking shape: @project.nosotros What I’ve come to believe out here in the desert is simple - that it’s about me and you, people and community - it’s about 𝘶𝘴, 𝗡𝗢𝗦𝗢𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗦. Even after all of these years, this is still just the beginning, but the heart of it all is that 𝗰𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵 across the street: @nosotrospace Thanks for reading. More to come. 🙏💒✨ drone: @paulsilvaphoto interior: @stephen.paul

brick by brick ((redux)) September 2024 Lately, I’ve been stacking full-size adobe bricks (more on that soon), and it’s taking me back to last year when I made too many tiny bricks to build a model dome. Same principles apply, no matter the scale. Uniform brick making and careful stacking are everything. It even brings back memories to all those @lego bricks I stacked as a kid... 🤠💫 And all these years later, I'm still having a ton of fun with it! There’s something satisfying about the rhythm of it all, especially at full-scale, and having to work/play as a team. Great community building! 🙌🧱🙌🧱🙌 . . . Titled 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱-𝗼𝗻-𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗿𝘆, that exhibition model dome depicted the amazing work of @anupama_kundoo : 𝘝𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘵 𝘏𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴 project - a series of domed houses built in Pondicherry, India, using mud bricks and mud mortar. Through that, I was commissioned by @adobeisnotsoftware as part of the @materialacts exhibit @craftcontemporary , for @pstinla .
