Cao Fei: My City Is Yours accompanies @cao_fei ā€˜s retrospective show at @artgalleryofnsw . Edited by curators @rat__101 and @caoyin9129 , the publication features essays and conversations by Ruby Arrowsmith-Todd, Hou Hanru, Pao-chen Tang, Michael Sun @michael.pdf and Yin Cao and visually extensive retrospective showcase of 11 bodies of work. The publication is an object of futuristic optimism, crafted to represent Cao Fei’s worlds and to blur the language of print and digital aesthetics. It is a showcase of romance, nostalgia, reality, hope and possibilities. About Cao Fei: My City of Yours exhibition: In the largest exhibition of her work ever seen in Australia, Cao Fei (pronounced tsow fay) 曹 ꖐ brings the energy of the contemporary metropolis into the Art Gallery of New South Wales with a retrospective that includes two new commissions. Cao was recently voted one of the most influential artists in the world. Born in Guangzhou in 1978 and based in Beijing, she has documented China’s rapid urbanisation and digital revolutions for over two decades. Her acclaimed films, photography and large-scale installations offer thrilling encounters with the disorienting, quick-fire transformations of the new millennium. My City is Yours ę¬¢čæŽē™»é™† is an invitation into a world of neon, street dance and pop music; a city both familiar and warped, real and virtual. Enter the exhibition via a replica 1960s Beijing cinema foyer, and exit through a homage to a popular Sydney yum cha restaurant. Designed by the artist and Beau Architects of Hong Kong, the exhibition takes the form of a cityscape. It’s a space of play and self-reinvention, where cosplayers and hip-hop dancers take over sidewalks in Fukuoka and New York. It’s a city of screens and pixels, mediated by gaming technologies, VR and the metaverse. It’s a city under construction, where neighbourhoods are razed overnight and workers compete for jobs with robots. Motion by @andrewgrune

A taste of Tony Albert: Not A Souvenir, a monograph of a Girramay, Yidindji, Kuku Yalanji man - contemporary artist @tonyalbert . The publication is edited by @liznowell and ambitiously features more than 1000 artworks from over 20 years of Tony’s practice. Through his work, he courageously engages in difficult conversations to shed light on problematic histories and current injustices faced by First Nations people. Drawing on both personal and collective histories, his multidisciplinary practice considers the ways in which optimism might be utilised to overcome adversity. In a week’s time, @mca_australia is opening a retrospective show in conjunction with the release of Tony’s monograph. Curated by @brucejohnsonmclean and titled ā€˜Not a Souvenir’ the show brings together Albert’s work across sculpture, photography, installation, painting, and assemblage alongside major new commissions. The exhibition takes inspiration from the MCA’s location on Sydney Harbour at Tallawoladah and the surrounding precinct, The Rocks – a profoundly significant site of early colonial contact, now synonymous with tourism and souvenir culture. It considers the commodification and misrepresentation of Aboriginal people and culture, both historically and today, while celebrating survival and cultural pride. Not A Souvenir is published by @thamesandhudsonau @paulinadel with the tremendous support of @sullivanstrumpf @ursulasullivan 3 years in the making, I’d love to celebrate the hard-working team behind this publication. I’d also like to thank @tonyalbert for trusting me to present his work in book form. This project has taught me real optimism, you are an inspiration, Tony x Content producer: Hannah Sharpe Editors: Rachel Carter, Aaron Searcy Production: Caitlin O’Reardon, Lisa Schuurman Design: Evi O Design assistants: @wooheong Not A Souvenir is available online and from the good bookshops, there is also a limited edition that comes with @tonyalbert editioned piece. TONY ALBERT: Not a Souvenir lands in less than a week. This landmark monograph traces the journey of Tony Albert whose work reclaims and reframes the imagery of Aboriginal Australia with wit, beauty and force – turning objects of prejudice into symbols of resistance, resilience and pride. The special edition is limited to 200 copies, each signed and numbered by Tony, and paired with an original resin sculpture created for this release. Every sculpture is individually cast and is in various colour pairings selected randomly, so no two are alike. Huge congratulations to artist Cao Fei @cao_fei and @fondazioneprada for the opening of DASH - a body of work three years in the making - in Milano this week. As stated by Cao Fei, ā€œThis exhibition invites viewers to step into a contemporary agricultural archaeological site, where multiple temporal dimensions intertwine. It is not a pastoral idyll of technology, but an archaeological gaze upon ā€˜agriculture as geological engineering.’ Here, satellite positioning systems converse with ritual geographies; artificial intelligence and traditional experience train one another; historical images and sensor signals generate visual resonance. Together, these objects and images form a chronicle of technological artifacts— at once tools of production and carriers of time—continually reconfiguring the biopolitics of the land across the vast gradients of human history.ā€ Cao Fei’s work and research for DASH are presented in 660 pages publication available via Fondazione Prada website. More details to be shared soon but for now I’d like to celebrate the passionate team that I’ve had the luck to share this artistic ride with. What draws you to create? For @evi_o (@evi_o.studio ), it’s natural light. Techno. Three carefully curated playlists. Watering the plants when her brain feels fried. Locking herself away in the studio. Or chasing the chaos of seeing multiple people in one day. We spent time with six creatives at the top of their game to step inside their spaces and unpack their process. Turns out inspiration doesn’t follow rules. Feeling inspired? We’re excited to announce our new project, Soul of Chinatown: The Book. We are embarking on a special journey with publisher @formisteditions to create a book about the people and places of Sydney’s Chinatown. With a history spanning nearly two centuries, Chinatown serves as the spiritual home of Chinese-Australians and now the wider Asian-Australian community. What makes Chinatown special is its people. From the restaurant owners, shopkeepers, characters and community leaders – Chinatown would not be what it is today without their resilience, sacrifice and ultimately, success. This is not just a history book: it’s a publication that will delve into the people and places of Chinatown, with a behind the scenes look at the area and the stories that make it tick. It’s a snapshot of Chinatown in 2026, with glances towards the past and the future. Our core team: Kevin Cheng (@kevincheng ): Editorial Lead and Co-Author Rosanna Chim (@rosannachim ): Co-Author Hayden Wong (@haydos.photos ): Art Director Evi O (@evi_o ): Book Designer Peter Wong (@petewongkee ): Community Producer Tyler Kang (@tks.studio ): Video Producer Formist Editions (@formisteditions ): Publisher We have chosen to partner with @formisteditions so we can fully tell the stories of Chinatown and do it justice, retaining full creative control. But we need your help in fundraising to bring this book to life: all proceeds will go towards producing the book, including its 100% Asian-Australian team of creatives. Fundraising link in the bio! We can’t wait to bring you along on this journey. Soul of Chinatown: The Book Coming in 2027. šŸ–¼ļø: @haydos.photos

I was very lucky to tail 2025 with a week trip to Saigon/HCMC to see my @agigraphic friends. As always, I hugged old friends and new friends and days easily blurred into one as I entered meaningful micro and macro moments discussing ideas, design, life, and ofc, dancing. There were lots of exploring, local food, shopping šŸ‘‰ @yahlengyu šŸ‘ˆ, culture and certainly one or two too many negronis and many, many, many laughters. To all my AGI friends, thanks for your presence in my life, I miss you already!!! @agi_open is inspiring as usual, listening to design masters and newcomers - all breaking boundaries in their own respectful way - and learning what’s been happening in Vietnam and also SEA. I was thankful for the space to share thoughts and philosophy on book design - what optimistic roles books can embody in today’s fast-paced world and share findings and ruminations. Big thanks to our hosts @ca_deleo @joshuabreidenbach and the talented team of @thisis.rice @base_design - it was surely a week to remember. Thanks for having us in your home. And to my design bro @scco.studio , thanks for the lols. I can’t wait for the next one. Until then friends 🦢 xxx 🦢
