Water is not only a resource—it is a voice, a right, a system of relations. Water shapes landscapes, communities and futures. It nourishes, resists and demands justice. On April 30, at 7 pm we present 100 Words for Water: A Projective Ecosocial Vocabulary @llibreria.finestres in Barcelona. We will be joined by co-editor @eva_franch @thisisfast_ , along with some of the local contributors, such as @aretimark , @edyanganioise , @eudaldec , @joanroigduran , @jldevicente , @laiacelm , Rosa Cerarols i @laplebeya_ , who, drawing on eight terms from the glossary, will open a dialogue on water through hydrosocial territories, regenerative marine materials, and sonic and aquatic ecologies, among others. 100 Words for Water @larsmullerpublishers 2025, edited by Eva Franch, Mireia Luzárraga and Alejandro Muiño @we_are_takk accompanied Water Parliaments: Projective Ecosocial Architectures in 2025, commissioned by the Institut Ramon Llull @irllull for the 19th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia @labiennale . Beneath the apparent beauty of the Balearic Islands —beneath every home, hotel room, fountain, and pool— lies a fragile network of aquifers that sustains life. These invisible spaces have names, histories, and limits. Today, nearly half of the 87 groundwater bodies across Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera are at risk, strained by decades of overexploitation, mass tourism, and climate pressures. This is one of the realities we learned from in the Balearic Islands, a territory that hosted one of the Laboratories of Futures and forms part of Water Parliaments: Projective Ecosocial Architectures. The College of Architects of the Balearic Islands in Palma de Mallorca is hosting the exhibition until May 20. → Take part by submitting your project to the ATLAS of Water Architectures: waterparliaments.org → Expand your vocabulary with 100 Words for Water → More information at waterparliaments.llull.cat → Coming soon at @uia2026bcn #WaterParliamentsBiennale is curated and designed by @eva_franch and @we_are_takk , commissioned and produced by @irllull for @CataloniaInVenice , an official collateral event of @labiennale #BiennaleArchitettura2025. Aquests espais invisibles tenen noms, històries i límits.

#WaterParliamentsBiennale is the project curated by @eva_franch (Eva Franch i Gilabert) and @we_are_takk (Mireia Luzárraga & Alejandro Muiño), commissioned by @irllull for @CataloniaInVenice , Collateral Event of @labiennale #BiennaleArchitettura2025

We are very excited to announce that our video installation The Storm: Architectures of Vernacular Geoengineering has been selected for the upcoming UIA 2026 World Congress of Architects, 2026 Barcelona. @uia2026bcn . Premiered at the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale, The Storm explores the history, present, and possible futures of weather modification practices in the Ebro Delta, one of the European territories most exposed to the effects of the climate crisis. The Delta is a high ecological value ecosystem threatened by sea-level rise, sediment loss, subsidence, and the increase of extreme weather events. The project takes as its starting point the coeteres, a network of architectural structures built in the mid-20th century to protect rice crops from the destructive impact of hailstorms. These constructions housed rockets loaded with silver iodide which, when fired into storm clouds, locally intervened in the processes of hail formation. Operated by the coeters—farmers trained to read the sky and decide the exact moment to fire—the coeteres functioned until the mid-1980s as a community-based system for managing climatic risk. The work offers a critical reflection on contemporary forms of geoengineering, characterized by a centralized, technocratic, and planetary-scale approach, and proposes imagining alternative models of weather intervention rooted in community practices, situated knowledges, and collective forms of governance of the atmosphere. We are grateful to the exceptional jury for their work and for this opportunity: Giovanna Borasi @boragio , Louise Lemoine @bekalemoine , Maxime Delvaux @maxdelv , Urtzi Grau @urtzigrau , Maria Giramé @mariagirame and Pau Sarquella @pausarquella . Johannes Bertleff 🟠 arh. Eva Franch i Gilabert 🟠 Brendan Cormier 🟠 arh. Tinatin Gurgenidze 🟠 arh. 👀

💧 Behind every drop of Water Parliaments there is an extraordinary constellation of people who imagined, shaped, and sustained this project from the very beginning. To every participant and collaborator — thank you for your vision, your dedication, and the generosity with which you engaged in this collective journey with water. From the curatorial, design, and production teams to the researchers, makers, coordinators, advisors, and institutions who supported the project, each contribution became part of a shared ecology of ideas, labour, and care. This exhibition exists because of you — because of your time, your craft, and the conversations you opened. Thank you for keeping the essence of water alive throughout this process. See you next year — the work continues, and so does the dialogue with water. organization and production: @irllull curatorship, exhibition design, and production: @eva_franch @we_are_takk curatorial, design, and production coordination: Esther Fernández Cifuentes identity and graphic design: @arauna_studio + @paratext.estudi audiovisual production: @15lfilms – Marc Luguera, Núria Gascón communication and public relations: @irllull , Pati Nuñez Agency @patinunez_agency , Andrea Elvira in collaboration with: @centreartlopati @lapaneralleida @el_bolit_girona @arquitectosdevalencia @coacatalunya @iebalearics TBA21–Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary, UIA World Congress of Architects 2026 Barcelona. 💧 As Water Parliaments comes to an end, we want to thank every visitor who chose to slow down, to listen, and to engage with the stories flowing through the exhibition. Your presence gave water a voice, one that now continues beyond the space, in everyday gestures and decisions. This project was an invitation to reimagine our relationship with water: not as a resource, but as a being with memory, limits, and agency. Thank you for becoming part of this parliament, for feeling, and for allowing water to ask you new questions. See you next year. #WaterParliamentsBiennale is curated by Eva Franch (@eva_franch ), Mireia Luzárraga & Alejandro Muiño (@we_are_takk ), and commissioned by @irllull as an official Collateral Event of @labiennale #BiennaleArchitettura2025. Is hail becoming more violent on a warming planet? In 2022 in the north of Catalonia, a severe storm released hailstones of up to 12 cm in diameter. There were dozens of injuries, some mortal; an 18 month old baby lost her life upon impact. Climate scientists think this storm was supercharged by rising sea temperatures - that it would have never happened without the impact of climate change. One year later, Italy experienced two consecutive record- breaking hailstorms. They produced unprecedented hailstones of 19.46 centimeters in diameter - as big as a bowling ball. A warmer atmosphere holds more water vapor. With a warmer climate, there are more days per year with conditions favorable for severe thunderstorms. But also, as the atmosphere warms, Hailstones will spend more time falling through warmer air. The smallest of them will not survive their journey to the ground. The paradox of hailstone today is that we will get more storms, with less number of hailstones. But those hailstones will tend to be bigger, more threatening and dangerous. Can SIlver Iodide rockets still save us from more aggressive hail? “The Storm: Architectures of Vernacular Geengineering” is a 2 screen film installation about forgotten myths of weather modification, starring hailstones, rice, silver iodide rockets, and the people who knew how to read the clouds in the south of Catalonia.
