The plumb is excited to announce Ensssemble, highlighing Montreal’s Design Community as part of @designtofestival ! January 24–28, open ✨daily✨ 10am-6pm Opening reception: Saturday January 25, 5pm-late 🥂 Ensssemble, a new exhibition celebrating Montreal’s vibrant design scene. The exhibition explores the intersection of art, craftsmanship, design, and scenography, with a curated selection of furniture, objects, and artwork. Join us at the opening to sample local Quebec wines, craft beers, and meet the designers and artists behind the works! The exhibition highlights the talent of Montreal’s emerging designers, showcasing both individual creations and collaborative works that reflect the city’s dynamic and forward-thinking creative culture. You enter the room and, from afar, you see what appears to be a heavy throne, a black block carved from stone. You walk toward it. Slowly, what you see begins to shift. What felt like stone grows softer, lighter. Perhaps it is some kind of composite. You move closer, maybe even sit. And then you understand, it is something found, what some might have dismissed as garbage, now upcycled into a chair. If you look carefully, if your eyes adjust, you might even glimpse the reflection of a vanishing sun on the surface of a summer sea. It’s a chair by @_paguet STOIC 01. Upcycled Polystyrene Bloc and Elastomer coating. @designtofestival @the_plumb @ensssemble

Beyond our design-focused exhibition, a bunch of painters, sculptors, and visual artists at large have joined our wild shows. Many artists and galleries, who usually present their work in other contexts, have been remarkably generous, though the spotlight isn’t always on them, it feels amazing to share it. @ensssemble celebrates artists and designers working across Quebec, beyond their hometowns. In the latest edition, Pot-au-feu, we had the pleasure of showcasing @petercampbelllll (Nova Scotia) and @gracie.kalyta (Winnipeg). Merci merci à tous les deux, et aussi: @anthonyburnham @vincent_larouc @pangee.pangee @elikerrhq @bradleyertaskiran_ Au‑delà de notre exposition centrée sur le design, de nombreux peintres, sculpteurs et artistes visuels se sont joints à nos wild shows. Ensemble célèbre les artistes et designers qui travaillent à travers le Québec, au‑delà de leur ville d’origine. Dans la dernière édition de Pot‑au‑feu, nous avons eu le plaisir de présenter Peter Campbell (Nouvelle‑Écosse) et Grace Kalyta (Winnipeg).

Listening to the piano; a cold morning outside; remembering a week ago; a warm-ish basement; good people everywhere; and a photograph, blurry as hell; faces reduced to ghostly figures; et je ne sais pas pourquoi mais en tête j’ai ce début de chanson de P.P. “Heureux d’un printemps qui m’chauffe la couenne” earlier today I read the beautiful poem by W.B. Yeats ‘’All Souls’ Night’’, someone alone at home, thinking about friends who are gone.
