I am so incredibly honored and filled with gratitude to have been awarded a 2023 Avery Fisher Career Grant alongside these amazingly inspiring fellow awardees @evrenozelpiano@bokyungbyun@isidorestringquartet@ninabernat_bass
Iām especially grateful to my wonderful friend and @runningamoc colleague @aucoincomposer who joined me for a performance of 17th century composer Isabella Leonardaās, Sonata Duodecima in a style made for the nights event! I canāt imagine a more gracious and generous musical partner š and I feel so lucky to share the stage with Matt.
Thank you so so much to everyone for your support. This is a dream and Iām still pinching myself!

A little Sunday morning Bach - The sublime Andante from J.S. Bachās Sonata for flute and continuo in E minor, BWV 1034. Performed live on period instruments.
Liza Lim - Bioluminescence, for solo flute [2019]
š š¦š”šš
Iām not sure I will ever know what it feels like to have a bioluminescent deep-ocean creature oscillate on my hand, but this piece might be as close as I get! Liza Lim calls for a variety of extended #flute techniques that plunge you into the depth of the ocean and conjure up those mysterious creatures that reign in the darkness.

#100daysofpractice day 94. Reading figured bass with Emi Ferguson.
Another from the @farplayapp session yesterday with @emiferguson : 18th-century composer Bonportiās Invention in C minor, which only exists in figured bass form ā meaning thereās only a melody, a bass line, and chord symbols. So Iām improvising the piano part here, which Iāll be playing on clavichord this summer at the @oregonbachfestival with Emi playing baroque flute.
This is such a great repertoire choice from Emi: since the composition simply doesnāt include that much information, freedom is built in.

#100daysofpractice day 93. FarPlay practice Brooklyn - Millerton with @emiferguson .
Iāve known Emi Ferguson for a few years now, and one of the things that always impresses me, aside from her great musicianship, is her openness to new ideas.
In our projects together, weāve focused on baroque music, but today we tried something new: total free improvisation, 100 miles apart, using @farplayapp . Maybe weāll bring a little of this to our clavichord-flute concerts this summer at @oregonbachfestival , who knows?

I first became obsessed with French airs de cour as a student at the Juilliard School. Within the genre were love songs, comedy, and drama - the pop songs of the court of Louis XIV performed both in his bedroom and at his lavish gatherings. I became so enamored that I re-designed a selection of my favorite airs de cour as my 2017 project Amour Cruel, re-thinking them as if 21st century female singer-songwriters were the court composers for Louis XIV.
Years later, I began to discover that there were women in the time of Louis XIV who were writing airs de cour, their work largely forgotten for the past few hundred years. Still only available in manuscript, these works had never been performed or recorded. Determined to change that, I began re-engraving and programming their works. As I delved deeper, I was blown away to find nearly 150 airs de cour written by women in the early 18th century - many, with vague attributions, their names reduced to initials or lost altogether. Who were these women? How had their works survived in the archives but remained unheard for centuries? The deeper I dug, the more I realized how much had been overlooked, and how excited I was to give this music new life.
We are so excited to share this music possibly for the first time since it was written. little may be known about these composers, but their music speaks to their wit, talent, and bad-assery!!
