A life-changing win in 2022 at the renowned Banff International String Quartet Competition (#BISQC) is where it all started for the @isidorestringquartet . Four years on, the former students of The Juilliard School are currently spending their fourth week in the Top 10 of @applemusic Classical’s Top 100 with their recording debut on Delos Music: ‘Adorations’. For the past few months, we’ve been sharing Billy Childs’ fourth quartet, “American Mosaic,” with audiences all over the world. Last night, we finally had the chance to perform it for him in person! As our first major commission, “American Mosaic” is not only a phenomenally written composition but also carries an important message that acknowledges the variegated and complex history of race relations in the United States, while looking toward a more unified future. Winner of the 14th Banff International String Quartet Competition, the quartet is composed of Julliard School grads and has appeared at major venues including Carnegie Hall, the Philharmonie de Paris, and London's Wigmore Hall. 🎻 Devin Moore is a Pittsburgh-born violist, visual artist, and creative director whose work reflects both strong musicianship and a wide-ranging artistic practice. A founding member of the Isidore String Quartet, he has helped shape the ensemble into an important international presence, with performances in more than 125 cities and appearances at major venues including Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, and the Philharmonie de Paris. A Kovner Fellow at The Juilliard School, where he studied with Samuel Rhodes and Misha Amory and received the Joseph W. Polisi Prize at graduation, Moore has also performed with ensembles including the New York Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Alongside his chamber music career, he is active in recording, film, and interdisciplinary creative work, and is especially engaged in projects that expand how classical music connects with audiences and other art forms. We present ​​D​evon and the Isidore String Quartet this Saturday at 7:30pm at the Stage at St. Andrews in Halifax. 🎻 Phoenix Avalon is a graduate of The Juilliard School, where he studied with Itzhak Perlman and Li Lin as a Kovner Fellow. He has also trained at Meadowmount, Kneisel Hall, and the Perlman Music Program, and has studied chamber music with members of the Juilliard, Cleveland, and Cavani string quartets. As a soloist, he has performed across the United States and Europe with orchestras including the Jena Philharmonic, the Cleveland POPS Orchestra, and the New Mexico Philharmonic, and has been featured on Performance Today and From the Top. His awards include First Prize at the Banff International String Quartet Competition as a member of the Isidore String Quartet, First Prize at the Louis Spohr International Violin Competition, and Silver Medal at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. Phoenix performs on a G.B. Guadagnini violin, Milan 1753 “Ex-Birkitt”, on loan from Rare Violins In Consortium, Artists and Benefactors Collaborative. 🎻 Cellist Joshua McClendon began his cello studies at the age of eight under the tutelage of cellist Paul Wingert. A founding member of the Isidore String Quartet, ​H​e gained international recognition after winning the First Prize and Haydn Prize at the 2022 Banff International String Quartet Competition. In Spring of 2023, the Isidore ​String Quartet received an Avery Fisher Career Grant, becoming the youngest ensemble in the program’s history to do so. Joshua received a Bachelor of Music from The Juilliard School under Professors Richard Aaron and Timothy Eddy.​ H​​e performs on a Giovanni Grancino cello, Milan c. 1697 on loan from Rare Violins In Consortium, Artists and Benefactors Collaborative.
