It's currently birthday season for both of us so we thought it was a good time to share some footage from our Em—Dash Bday Bash screening of D.E.B.S at @_atlas_cinema last year!! Thank you to everyone that attended and everyone who helped us set up and cook food for 50, it was one our highlights of 2025 💌
Shoutout to @nighttimebaker_ for 3 gorgeous cakes + @samthaman for all the hot tea
Big thank u to lovely @mewnyra for being our photographer and editor 🫂
Entry 01 Queers Don’t Just Shoot Back—We Nurture the Fire by Rizky Rahad
Last year, at @_atlas_cinema , we had the immense pleasure of meeting @rich.rahad through his workshops with @otherness_archive that both problematised and explored the liberatory potentials of queer cinema. He was an obvious choice for Asterisk Internationalist’s inaugural text, and his essay Queers Don’t Just Shoot Back—We Nurture the Fire reflects on the political role of cinema in Indonesia's past as the centre of the Third World movement while exploring its use in the present during times of civilian uprising.
Head to the link in our bio to read and share on our new online platform, masterminded by the forever iconic angelic genius @o.s.warren ❣️
Introducing Asterisk Internationalist, our new journal inspired by the archives of London’s Black Lesbian and Gay Centre.
Last year, we screened @veemack1 's vital documentary Under Your Nose which introduced us to the history of the now-defunct Black Lesbian and Gay Centre (BLGC). With @em____dash , we looked into their paper archives and newsletter which inspired our programme notes for the screening, but knew we wanted to revisit this editorial project in a more extended form.
Together and with help from @grandplanfund we are launching Asterisk Internationalist, an online journal which aims to revisit the radical aims of the BLGC’s original newsletter. It will bring together writers, artists, and activists to create a critical, internationalist exploration of queer, racialised experiences in both their artistic representations and lived forms.
First essay launching online tomorrow 🫧
Just published on @wallpapermag : I spoke with @em____dash about Practice Meets Paper. Their new edition with Anahita Harding explores disability, scale and who gets to occupy public space. Link in bio
Presenting a flip through of.... Are You Comfortable Yet?
This publication has been an ongoing collaboration between us and @anahitaharding for a year now. As a retelling of Anahita's performances, we hope this file moves from our hands to others, as something archival yet immediate.
We're grateful to be publishing the first edition of Practice Meets Paper with Anahita, and we thank her for not only trusting in us, but also encouraging us to experiment within our work 💌
We're all prepped for our launch tomorrow, so come by and say hi!! Tickets in our bio, but feel free to dm/email us in case if cost is a barrier and we'll be happy to accomodate 🫂
Anahita Harding’s artistic explorations delve into the themes of perception and the body, with her performances often addressing bodily difference and inviting audiences to reconsider their own views in regards to disability.
Inspired from her own life and the experiences of other disabled people, she collages text from institutional infrastructural guidelines for disabled people with news articles covering their lived experiences in hopes to create awareness and change.
Join us for the launch of Are You Comfortable Yet? this Saturday, October 4th for an exhibition on the performances, a collaging workshop, readings and a Q&A with the artist! 🎟️ ticket link on our bio!
