Honoured to be in the shortlist and showing in this years’ Zurich Portrait Prize at the National Gallery of Ireland!
I entered this portrait of Sinead with her permission back in June, and I don’t think any of us could have imagined what would have happened only a month later. I’ve been heartened to see the images I made with her resonate with many people over the last few weeks, and I hope this portrait will give more people a way to connect with and remember her when it is on show. I see this work as a way to honour one of our greatest icons, and to show her as she wanted to be shown.
I’m currently producing the print with @iarts_jim and @picture_bloc , with many of our conversations revolving around how best to translate the sheer amount of character and life she conveys with her eyes. The show opens on the 2nd of December!

“Shane MacGowan at Home, 2021”
I’m delighted that my portrait of Shane MacGowan has been shortlisted once more for the AIB Portrait Prize 2024 at the @nationalgalleryofireland later this year! The show opens on November 9th where you’ll be able to see my work alongside some other incredible artists.
This portrait of @shanemacgowanofficial was a special one for me. It was amongst my first assignments for @nytimes and the first time I met Shane himself. Shane could be brash and outlandish, but I think this image shows his softer side which I saw while I sat with him. He had a great sense of humour and liked a good Western movie which we chatted about while I was there. I decided to print this image quite large so viewers can come right up to the piece and see the details that surround him in his living room. There are so many objects and photos on his mantelpiece that say a lot about who he was. Lastly, thanks to Shane’s wife @victoriamaryclarke for her help and support, and @iarts_jim and @picture_bloc for the stellar work as per usual.
Back to the Kinsale Shark Awards! We’ve won Best Choreography at this year’s @kinsalesharkawards with our music video ‘The Flood’ for @yevagabonds . This award is all for Jimmy Southward @jimbz1 and his amazing work as a dancer. It was such a joy to collaborate with him on this video, talking about the story that the dance is telling, and how he was going to respond to each part of the song to convey it. Jimmy is one of those artists who is in total control of his craft, but is also so ready to adapt and elevate as he goes. It was a real honour to have worked with him on this project, so this one’s for you Jimmy!
The second slide is a clip from the day before the shoot where we were walking through the location and song, chatting through what we’d eventually do for the final video and testing the camera. This was a one take video so it was essential that Jimmy, our DOP @naoisekettle and myself were all in sync to get it right.

Stowe Story Labs is pleased to announce that Ellius Grace has been selected as the 2026 Stowe Launch Fellow with his body horror feature HALFCAST, which he workshopped with Stowe at the 2025 Connemara Writers' Retreat. Ellius was a Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland Fellow at the Connemara Writers' Retreat and is in development on the project with Wildcard. Stowe will support Ellius as he continues to develop the script.
