A lot of women message me with a note saying “most makeup artists don’t know how to work with my skin tone” and honestly… I hear it far too often.
Matching skin properly isn’t a bonus skill or a niche service, it’s part of being a professional makeup artist. Undertones matter! Skin prep matters and product knowledge matters. “Close enough” isn’t good enough. 👆
Every bride deserves to sit in the makeup chair knowing they’ll be seen, understood, and matched properly ❤️

When I tell people I’m a makeup artist, they often imagine a small case with a few foundations, brushes, and lipsticks. But a huge part of my job is being prepared for everything happening around the makeup too!
From allergy eye drops and hygiene supplies to lighting, backup products, and even a full size chair, professional kits are built from years of problem-solving on weddings, shoots, film sets and long working days.
A lot of the “unseen” kit essentials are there to make the client’s experience smoother, calmer, and more comfortable - even if they hopefully never realise they were needed in the first place 🫶

One of those mornings 🤪
As a bridal makeup artist, I’m often on the road in the dark driving to venues I haven’t worked in before and finding the prep room before venue staff have even clocked in for the day. That means lugging my kit around what feels like a maze, moving furniture around, and setting up a calm space from whatever I’m given - and trying to make it feel organised and spacious for the busy morning ahead. This is all while now also trying to record content because whether I like it or not this is now part of our job 🤪 This particular morning I was fully overstimulated before I’d even opened my kit, in clumsy mode tripping over my own bags, too warm, hearing loud banging right outside the window, powder puffs flying around the room, and my tripod refusing to stay upright 😭 So I gave up on trying to film “the perfect setup” and put all my energy into the real work - looking after my bride and her lovely bridal party, and keeping the morning feeling calm and steady for them. They would have had no idea this was all taking place just minutes before they arrived 😮💨
And of course, everything fell into place! The mood shifted, everyone was relaxed, there was lots of laughter and chats, good music, the kind of energy you actually want on a wedding morning. My bride Sarah was absolutely beautiful and so happy, and she made my job feel effortless 🫶

5 things I wish every bride knew 👆
Wedding mornings always start with “ah we’ve loads of time, be grand” and somehow can end with “is it already 2pm??”
There’s a lot more happening in the room than most people realise: florists, photographers, videographers, planners, plus the general chaos of getting dressed in something with way more buttons, zips and hidden clasps than your day to day outfits.
Don’t be afraid to ask your vendors for advice when planning and be sure to listen to any suggestions given. After all, this is likely your first wedding but this is just one of hundreds for us 🤪 we know a thing or two about how the mornings go!
