Original black and white photograph from my UFO photography collection of the alien RAMA, who repeatedly abducted Joao Valerio da Silva from Botucatu Brazil in the 1980s. This is an original print made after da Silva smuggled a camera during his abduction and took images of RAMA's home planet. Da Silva claimed to have been used for 'intimate relations' during his abductions - he described her as a 'dark complicated woman of medium stature and quite attractive.'

Scanning more slides from my UFO photograph collection. I haven't looked at these for a long time - since the Divisive Moments show I made for @thephotographersgallery and @krakowphotomonth - They are still the most complex and simple descriptions of the problems with and beauty of photography. Beat that AI. Making these scans for @philosonore who is making a show for this years @rencontresarles and publishing a book on UFO photography. #ufo #ufophotographs #analoguephotography

When we invited Helen Sear for a short residency in the HAPAX Living Room, we didn’t really know what to expect. Having worked with Helen for a feature in our third issue we knew it would be beautiful and poetic, but what unfolded over these four days was pure magic and we are truly grateful to everyone who dropped in to meet with Helen, engage with her new works seen here in London for the first time, and - how fun was this - curate images from the walls into personal selections that we discussed and documented. The associations of images that our visitors made were really valuable to bringing new insights into thinking about sequencing and future publications. Thank you to everyone who came by and shared this weekend with us, and saw Helen’s mesmerising video work ‘wahaha biota’ playing on loop in the screening room (bits of this 30 minute work spliced in here) which continues in our dreams. Thank you Helen for bringing so many new ideas and old friends to the Living Room, and for making this curatorial editing experience completely fun and something we would love to try again. See you in April for our next Living Room Room projects- love, HAPAX Helen Sear RA : ‘One Thing Next to Another‘ took place at HAPAX Living Room 12.3.26 - 15.3.26 @hmsear #helensear @hapaxmagazine #hapaxmagazine @empresssw6 #empressstudios

Just found this ancient artefact. It’s the invite to my show, Common Complaints, as part of the Shoreditch Biennale, 1998. The image of a cold sore , entitled Coldsore: drunken indiscretion, had a perforation to detach it and keep it in your wallet. I wonder if anyone ever did. #commoncomplaints #class #poverty

Artist in Residence : Eugénie Shinkle From 6 October – 6 November 2025, HAPAX welcomes Eugénie Shinkle to HAPAX Living Room, our West London space dedicated to showing new or experimental forms of lens-based art. Eugénie Shinkle is a photographer, writer, and theorist whose work explores the material and embodied dimensions of seeing. Trained first as a civil engineer, she brings an instinct for structure and process to her engagement with landscape, architecture, and the photographic image. Her practice traces the meeting points between the built and the organic, working with abstraction, repetition, and modest materials to evoke atmosphere, movement, and the slow unfolding of form. At the HAPAX Residency, she is creating a continuously evolving work that draws on both architectural and biomorphic languages—exploring how structures breathe, shift, and take on life. Shinkle’s writing moves between theory and practice, reflecting on sensation, time, and the material experience of images. She is the editor of C4 Journal, a platform for critical and creative writing on the photobook, and her work has appeared widely in international publications and exhibitions. Please join us during this special residency to visit with the artist and experience her unique practice and cumulative work in progress. ⭐️ Event: Eugénie Shinkle in Residence ⭐️ Address: HAPAX Living Room, 1st Floor, Empress Studios, 17 Empress Place, London SW6 1TT ⭐️ Studio Visit Days: Visitors are welcome to visit with the artist and witness her working practice: October 24th : 12 -4 pm October 29th and 30th : by appointment (email [email protected]) ⭐️ Closing Party: 6th November 2025 6-8 pm @hapaxmagazine @eugenieshinkle @empresssw6 @earlscourtdevco #artistinresidence #studiotakeover
